Hi to all, I have a very good idea: Redstone inolated wire.
Why? Well, I don´t know you, but I use redstone all the time, for making doors, or automatic systems.
What is the problem? well, actual redstone complex circuits ocuppies so much space, because to keep two redstone wires isolated, you need a block between, and that block ocuppes space.
So, I have the solution: Isolated wire. You can place two isolated wires without a block between, and they will not touch or interconnect, unless you want that to happen.
Well, I will tell you some characteristics of this great item:
Because it is crafted with 2 redstone and 1 iron, it has more conductivity, and a signal can reach [20] blocks instead of 15, like redstone dust wires.
It can be placed on ANY side of a block; up, at the sides, and UNDER.
To send a signal up, you need a block where to place the redstone isolated wire.
It can resist water; you can create underwater connections, because it is isolated
REAL Characteristics: Well, in minecraft all the crafted blocks have a similitude to the real life, or have a "Logic" crafting.
To craft isolated wire, we use redstone and iron (conductors), and one piece of leather (isolator).
I like this idea, because minecraft will not need to have new items, or anything, we use actual items.
Well, lets see some images, to make it easier to understand.
Crafting:
As you can see, we use 2 redstone, 1 iron, which brings conductivity (5 blocks more) and leather, that isolates the conductors.
Now, let´s see this new item behavior, and how it works:
The signal does not reachs the second wire
There, the signals reachs the second wire, because we joined it together.
Now, the tdiference between normal redstone, and isolated wire:
We can see that it is not the same...
This yes, but it ocuppies more space:}
OK, now let´s see their behaviors:
The wires are placed like this, depending of the position they were placed ^
I will show you how it would be, if we could see it inside minecraft worlds:
Sorry for bad graphics, I used paint.
You can see the difference between actual up-sending signals and the futuristic ones:
It can be really useful and practic, only placing Isolated wire on a wall, or anywhere!
Well, returning to the main idea, How can I interconnect two isolated wire?
Like this, I will explain:
1) Place isolated wire somewhere else: (blue points are clicks)
2) Click like right side of the image, and then the node will be done. If you do this BETWEEN two wires, you will have this:
And that is all, friends.. It is not a difficult idea, but it is so useful.
Please, share this topic with another people, Mojang MUST read this topic, help!!!
Not a bad idea. A small addition - instead of having the wires face the way they're placed, you could be able to dye isolated wires - they will only connect to their own color.

You could just install the redpower mod and dye them up to seperate connect them. Problem solved.
Sorry, but I wouldn't want it to be in vanilla Minecraft. Sounds more like a Tekkit thing. Minecraft is simple, and ingenious. Everything is made out of blocks, it is not supposed to be super compact. We redstoners need something more like the Repeater. Something simple, But with great value.
Thanks, Talons7331. How he says; I am talking about something WITHOUT mods, something that can be used by everyone, in all the servers, without installing mods or plugins.
Coloured redstone Is not a bad idea, but I prefer all the redstone of a same colour.
EDIT: Another thing: Redstone can´t be placed on a wall, or under a roof, isolated wire can, and I like it because It can be very useful, and actual redstoners (I am) can continue using redstone, and we are going to see that isolated wire is useful for a lot of things more. I want to remember this:
It can resist water
It can climb walls
It can conduct upto 20 blocks, instead of 15.
It can be placed UNDER a block
It resist fire and lava (new)
Yeah, some aspects of it are like redpower 2, but this isn't a mod; it's a suggestion, meaning that the OP and supporters of this want it in vanilla Minecraft.
Personally, this would get a warm welcome on my part if it was implemented. It would make redstone much easier.

i think that we should isolate wires and decide if they dont actually connect but somethings should be left for mods because it is somewhat out of place. in my opinion its like witches i like the idea but they seem like it should be left for mods. i dont mind so much as about the which rather then waterproofing redstone. this is very wrong, its just something that would just be unfitting, but i will say i might download this if it was a mod and i VERY much encourage someone to do this because redstone is a challenge to me, trying to be creative with a major limit makes me enjoy the challenge but a mod gives me a choice of challenge sure id use it but not as a vanilla concept i know what i said sounds like i dont know what im saying but i hope you get it, and plz mojang, know what must be left to mods
i know there will be people who would NOT like it and people who LOVE it but the reality is mods cant be implemented if they dont fit. like the timber mod, nearly everyone loves and uses it but should it be vanilla, no. tl;dr mods have their place and vanilla has its place. some mods shouldnt be vanilla

It isn't too bad of an idea, but it sounds too much like Redpower 2. Maybe perhaps different colours of Redstone wires would work better.(and avoid those nasty spammers disowning it because its too similar to Redpower). They would have to include wire for every colour of dye, sure, but it would be much more fitting to Minecraft. Allowing it to climb walls and go under water would remove a lot of the challenge Redstone brings to the game. Personally, I like the challenge of creating compact circuits using only the vanilla wire. If I need something much more complex, I would just simply relaunch Minecraft, enabling Redpower in magic launcher. There would be much more people not liking it due to the loss of challenge, than those for the idea.(as a generalisation, I may be wrong).
Downside for Jeb, and the others at Mojang is:
Writing this addition would be about 1000-1500 new lines of code, and many more bugs
New textures for each colour of wire.
Spaces used for adding new blocks would be used in the terrain.png that they could have used for other things more fitting.
Simply put, it would be much much more trouble than it is worth in the end. Do not get me wrong here though, it is not a bad idea for those who use Redstone all the time, but it would be unnecessary inventory clutter for those who do not use much Redstone. In the absolute end, Redpower covers all of that nicely, and there is the option for that to be installed if the user needs it.
But I am not talking about colored wires! I want placing the wires the way they were placed.
As lots of people say; they would welcome it if mojang create it.
Who said that mojang will have to create about a 1500 line code?
As we can see on Repeaters or signs, they are placed depending of the side you are appointing/seeing
They should create some codes, yes, but it is very useful, their effort would create an innovation.
To create anvils, and new biomes they have to create codes too, but in all the updates they have to work, life is like that.
I'm going to sound rude when I say this, not trying to start a flame war, but I don't think you understand how coding works. There is about ~200 or more lines of code and 4 files just to create 3 new blocks. That is just simply blocks. I'm currently working on a mod that adds over ~200 new blocks to the game, a long with a few new functions, etc. I'm already at over ~1000 lines of code just for about 25 blocks. That is JUST blocks. Not anything complicated (with transparent blocks, which adds 20 more lines per block), they don't even have crafting recipes yet. Crafting recipes will add another 200 or more lines of code to the already long mod.
Redstone, by its self, including all code required is about more or less than 350 lines of code. So you get the idea of how complicated something like this gets when you want it to go up walls, and still work. Heck, you can even make a vertical wire in vanilla Minecraft as it is with redstone torches and a few blocks.
I say coloured wires, so like Redpower 2, they would only connect to their colour, effectively allowing you to run two different wires next to each other. Standard redstone wire could be used to connect any of the colours together as it would be neutral. With the way the Minecraft game engine works, it is impossible to run the same wire of the same block ID and data value next to each other, as it would connect to its self any ways(without a modding API like forge). That is why I say colours, so that it will not do that, and you will get the desired results, which is running wires next to each other.
May I add, everything except images in Minecraft is 100% code. There are no models besides the ones that are declared by even more code.
so basically redpower 2 isolated wire in minecraft so that people who do not want to mod and want to use redstone can do it easier it is a great idea but jeb would need to ask eloraam for it because she is maintaining the mod redpower and that is in redpower.
Exactly the point. Every dev's nightmare, copyright.
Not a bad idea. A small addition - instead of having the wires face the way they're placed, you could be able to dye isolated wires - they will only connect to their own color.
That could work, and especially if you add something that can connect different colors together kinda like a four way repeater. Only its colored.
I personally believe this to be moreso a mod than vanilla. I think that the limitations in redstone make it more challenging, and force you to think outside the box (or block, in this case). Nonetheless, it's quite obvious that you did put a lot of work into your suggestion; so +1 for you.

In my opinion, Position-Placement is the best idea to make this isolated wires work.
