This mod doesn't work with RedPower/Thermal Expansion! It's a bug, etc.
This is a case of some simple ID conflicts. Read your logs, they tell you exactly what is conflicting, then fix it. Search for "CONFLICT" in ForgeModLoader-Client-0.log.
Why do towers generate with terrain/dirt/trees through them?
They're ruined, abandoned and overgrown. No, it's not a bug. I'm working on a better system of spawning towers as well as new towers to spawn in.
I don't like the hi-res models/textures.
I don't like how limiting it is having to make things in a 16x16 scope. And I do like how it looks. You can always replace the sprites with something lower res if you feel like doing the work yourself.
I don't like the RPG level up aspect
I do. So tough.
On death, five magic levels lost is way too much!
It's configurable, though there is a minimum of 1.
I can't find <x> in the config...
Config items are only generated when used. It's something I will fix in the future, but for the time being you can find a complete config file at http://arsmagica.sho...com/wiki/Config
Hecates and Dark Mages are too hard!
This mod is meant to be challenging. They can both be beaten if you're careful and plan ahead. If you really hate them that much, each Ars Magica mob can be disabled individually in the config file...though you're missing out!
Can you add a config value for <x>?
I generally dislike these kinds of requests - if I feel something needs a config option I will add it. All I ask is that if you are going to request something like this, you give a valid reason as to why.

Details/What you need to do:
Write a short story (minimum 10 pages) that details the exploits of a mage during the ancient era. It must relate to Ars Magica. It should also explain some of the lore of the mod, for example, it could be a story of a young mage experimenting with research into affinities, or a pioneer of spell creation. The point of this is to compile information on the mod in story form. So pick a block, or an item, or a system (or a few!) and be sure to write their use (aka how it works) into your story somehow. Please try to post what you will be working on so that there aren't too many duplicates.
It should be written in the form of a journal or a first hand account, and proper spelling and grammar is a must (if it's not your strong suit, just do your best!)
Where it will be used:
Stories will be broken up and placed in the mod as lost journal fragments. If there are specific points you would like it broken up, please let me know, otherwise I will choose points that I see fit to split the story up. Ideally we are going for 10-20 "books" per series.
Rewards:
If your story is selected, you will be granted access to the fully customizeable player auras that are part of Ars Magica and have only been granted to a select few thus far - this will mark you as a contributor to the mod for all to see!
Ars Magica is not allowed in modpacks by default. There are a couple special cases:

As a general rule, I will not respond any more to PMs asking about mod packs - this isn't because I am trying to be a jerk or anything, but I get a lot of these PMs each day, and responding "Read the OP" over and over gets old. So please, don't PM me about mod packs. If I change my mind, I will post it here on the OP.
Private server mod packs are fine, under the conditions that it is *only* available to members of your server and is in no way available for public download.

Logs or it didn't happen. Just saying "it doesn't work" doesn't help me find the problem and fix it, and I will likely ignore you until you give me something to go on.
Try to explain what you were doing (or trying to do) when the crash happened. Context is important for fixing bugs, and will help me fix it that much faster!

"I don't know how" is not a valid reason. Google how to do it. Ask. I don't care how you find out, but please do it!
The API is still in a very early release. Adding new spells is more or less fully functional, worldgen and power integration work has started but is not yet available. The power system can be queried, but not expanded upon. That will come in the next update. I will release a basic tutorial in the next few days.

Nice! This is very similar to an idea that I had a while back. That being said, I'm glad you decided to create this since I would have never had the time to do so myself. I've really wanted a spell casting system that matched the complexity of other magic mods, such as Equivalent Exchange and ThaumCraft, and I believe this mod has the potential to do just that. Keep up the good work!

It looks amazing, although it needs a few more projectiles, God it would be awesome if you could grab the ghast fireball, make it blue, then give it mana particles, then make it a spell.
And, don't make any explosions drop blocks for lags sake, such as the one where you fly and hit the ground, and that awesome fireball one, but this has potential to be better than thaumcraft, and PLEASE don't make it as complex as thaumcraft.
Other than that, it's amazing.
Need any textures or anything? Nothing you need done very quickly? I have a friend who does amazing shaded textures in about 5-10 minutes.
And also, may i help out with a closed beta? Of course i'm expecting a No, and yes, i do want to play the mod as much as everyone else, but i would be happy to test out for bugs, as if you allowed me to i would be playing it with LAN with my brother in survival, so we're bound to find out a few bugs.
I doubt you need a closed Beta tester, But i thought i might as well offer assistance, i have a lot of time on the holidays.

This looks incredible. The particle effects, and the graphics in general, are beautiful. I especially like the lightning effect you're using for power transportation Can't wait for that open beta, good luck man!

Spells that destroy terrain are limited in size, for one, and in the mod's config you can disable the block dropping if you find it too laggy. So that shouldn't be a problem.
I just read all of the mod features only to find out this is in closed beta.

I hate to be that person that asks, but... got an estimate for when the open beta starts? As in, are we talking days, weeks, months, etc.? It's okay if you don't have any idea yet, I'm just curious - and excited. xD

Oh, and another idea of a spell, A sort of outer blast, using it will make it rain fireballs (Like the ones in the video) all around you, except from where you were when you casted the spell, that would most defenetly be a very fun spell xD

Alrighty, let me see what I can do with those spells.
Keep in mind though, that you are going to want a lot of junk blocks if you plan to use Raw Essence (the power system). But I definitely see where you're coming from on the potential for lag.
I don't have a problem with the PMC post, though I'll be releasing a new banner for the mod (since it's no longer called SpellCraft). When I do, if you could just switch the banner to the updated one, that would be perfect. Other than that, no worries.
Stunning. That's the kind of mod based on magic that I was looking for. Keep it up and you'll be even advanced than Thaumcraft. I don't like Thaumcraft anyway.. XD
