I have not bought Minecraft yet and hinging upon answer to this question.
Can I install it on my master computer and also on my laptop, and have my children playing it simultaneously on both?

I am not new to computers. I just do not know what kind of protection the game uses. Do you have to be logged in to be playing it? And can I be logged in multiple times at once?

Ok.

You can install it on both computers - I did this before my laptop ot an update.

Your children won'be able to similtaneously play it on the same account. Instead just make two accounts (one with Premium status and one without the full game). I'm not to ure about the operating requirment, but it does need a 64 bit Java install for really good gameplay (if you have a bad computer, it should be fine).

You DO have to be logged into play, but this doesn't require the internet (as long as the first time you long in you are connected to the internet). In order to log in, just open the Minecraft launcher, then it will come up with Minecraft news and a little log in thing at the bottom. You just need your sername and Password.

As mentioned previosuly, you can't be logged in multiple times, but accounts are free (it's the game that you need to buy), so if you want more than one person playing at the same time, you will need more than one account.

I hope this has helped, and have fun! :)

Great, but one more (basic) question: does the online buying of the game contain some kind of protection where it can only be installed for one user name? I have no problem making multiple log-ins, as long as I do not have to buy the game twice for two different installations!

You can install Minecraft on any computer, as much as you want with one account.
This is my best Minecraft creation ever!

You can only be logged on to each account in one place.

So you can install it on as many computers as you want, but only one installation will work at a time (without getting more accounts).

Thanks all, but one final question (and this is the important one!)
Yes, I will make two log-ins for my two different children to play. Will I need to buy the game twice?? Or can I get away with spending 26.95 one time and installing it on two different computers where I have two different log-ins?

once they're installed on both computers one can log in and the other can click "play offline"

the downside is one won't be able to play on multiplayer servers, or see his/her skin.

If they are both bought. A skin is assigned to an account, not the installation.

It is possible to have two separate machines running Minecraft with the same account (singleplayer and multiplayer), although this might violate some terms of use. (Check for yourself!)

Wrong. I'm testing it right now (two computers, one account), and the only restriction I see is that both computers with the same account cannot be logged into the same server at the same time.
