The Seasons Mod, originally by Nandonalt, is now updated! This mod adds the four seasons to Minecraft;
Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter!

I apologize for the mess in this post. I will be rewriting the code for my post to make it nicer looking and easier to navigate.

Spoiler: Simple Solutions to Crashes

Do not file mirror (host my files) or make money from my work. I am growing very frustrated with people doing these two things.

I don't maintain this mod for the money, but that doesn't mean I'm alright with others getting paid for my labor.

----------------------------------------------Download----------------------------------------------

Latest Version: Minecraft 1.5.2
Seasons Mod v1.9.3
codenamed "Disappointment"

While the codename is "Disappointment," I promise that it won't be one. :P

Spoiler: API (for modders)

--------------------------------------------Requirements--------------------------------------------

-these adfly links belong to Forge, not me

-------------------------------------------How To Install-------------------------------------------

Install the required Forge build or later, then drag and drop the contents of this mod's .zip file into your minecraft.jar. This is not always possible, such as with MCPC+ servers, so this mod can be put into the mods folder as a .jar to appear to be fully functioning, and an option in the config will replace the server-side block definitions. (On Bukkit hybrids, this option is "true" by default)
If this is not done correctly, the mod will alert you with a crash report.

Spoiler: mod compatibility

----------------------------------------------Changelog----------------------------------------------

v1.9.3
  • Made mod able to crash game when installed incorrectly. (mods folder as a .zip is incorrect)
  • Fixed bad textures on Season Watch and Thermometer
  • Added Season Watch animation code. Texture still needs completing, however.
  • Fixed the randomly given achievements
  • Made textures fully refresh when needed, triggered by opening a GUI such as chat or inventory.
  • Made frostbite and burn effects not happen for players that are dead, in creative mode, or are invincible according to the server
  • Fixed occational disagreement between servers and clients over what season it is
  • Added a worldly option to disable seasons
  • Added a customizable world settings config to config folder. Only used when making a new, local world settings file. Generated at world-load.
  • Added a short readme in config folder. It says nothing new, but is shorter than the full readme. Generated at world-load.
  • Added work-around for a crash when not connected to the internet during an update check
  • Improved the displays of some sub-sections of the command
  • Changed the melting logic of snow tiles in Spring/Summer a bit
  • Progress towards customizing biome temperature/moisture
  • Optimized temperature/moisture API
  • Expanded still un-implemented seasonal-effect API
  • Further reduced total bandwidth usage for server-to-client seasonal updates
  • Somehow broke the update notifications... again.

--------------------------------------------Known Issues--------------------------------------------

  • Cold biomes still freeze in warm seasons. The snow and ice thaw from the heat of the season, but the block updates cause a small degree of lag on servers.
  • World generation is strange at times. This is because the world generator assumes the world is static when it makes snow and ice. (ie: no seasons)
  • The season watch's animation does not exist. The code is done, but the texturing is not. Right clicking with the item works.
  • The thermometer's animation does not exist. When right clicking, however, the correct value is printed. Values are in percent, not degrees, which is not a bug or issue.
  • There is no config for the update notifications.
  • Installing this mod in the mods folder as a zip causes a crash. This is intentional, as it is not a valid installation.

------------------------------------------Previous Versions------------------------------------------

To help in fixing/repairing this post, previous version information is removed for versions I'm responsable for. This information will be restored in some form after everything else gets fixed.
My uploads are still intact, and are independant of this post. If you want this mod for a previous version, PM me which version, and I'll get the link(s).

---------------------------------------------Season Info---------------------------------------------

  • Season length is 7 Days long (default)
  • Creating/Loading a world without a season will make the world start in the middle of a random season.
  • Restart Minecraft when switching from SSP to SMP.
  • An image will be shown when transitioning from season to season, and will disappear after a few seconds.

Information:

In Summer, all rains will be thunderstorms. Instead of snowing, it will only rain in snowy biomes, but they won't defrost. Wheat will also grow 1.5x faster than in any other season, as if absorbing all that yummy heat. When in a desert biome, exposed to the sun, and not wearing protection (leather), you'll get hurt every so often from dehydration and burns. Summer rain will destroy most of the plants generated from Spring. Just like the Spring, it will defrost the ice/snow generated from Winter in non-snowy biomes. Finally, days are longer and nights are shorter(coming soon).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted Image
Information:

Grass and Leaves have a modified color. Red and yellow flower textures change to accompany the color of the grass in Autumn. You'll also get bonus wheat while harvesting.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted Image
Information:

In Winter, when it rains, it snows (except in the warm biomes). In already cold biomes such as Tundras, Taigas, and Ice Deserts, the temperature drops even further to can cause frostbite and slow you down, unless you wear protection (full leather armor). Lastly, days are shorter and nights are longer(coming soon).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted Image
Information:

Tall grass and plants (even custom plants, if added to the config) will grow on grass blocks affected by direct sunlight.

--------------------------------------------Item Crafting--------------------------------------------

This mod also adds two new items to Minecraft:

Season Watch:
Posted Image
Right-Clicking while holding this will tell you the Season, current Season day, and days left in the Season.

Thermometer:
Posted Image
Right-Clicking while holding this will tell you the current biome and temperature in '%' for where you are standing.
Please note that temperature is not affected by ice, lava, etc. and each X,Y,Z has its own temperature.

I would like to give a tremendous thanks to the people that worked with this mod before I started. Thank you
Nandonalt, for creating the mod;
Trak, for updating and reviving the mod after Nandonalt; and
RAWRMaD, for assisting Trak in updating and maintaining the mod before graciously letting me take over.
It is a great honour to me to now update and maintain the legacy that has become The Seasons Mod.

I would also like to thank everyone that made the content that is (and will be) posted above and everyone that helped discover bugs, letting me focus on writing code.

By all means, TheFFFUUUguy. This mod hasn't had any new publicity or updates for a while, so I would love it if you would.

Hope I'm not too late to tell you this, but my name is pronounced by spelling it out quickly. If I'm too late and you've already recorded, then, oops... my bad. But I don't think I've ever met someone that pronounced it correctly the first time they saw me.Posted Image
EDIT: changed name. This pronunciation was for the old, not the new one.

Will this be updated to 1.3.2?
It will be... but there are things that need to be done first such as turning it into a Forge-based mod and a slew of under-the-hood changes. I might make a promotional (non-supported) version for 1.3.2 after making this for Forge, but no guarantee on that. The changes will be well worth the wait for a supported 1.3.2, trust me. Posted Image
My current guess is that I'll have a fully-Forge-base version within a month. (But then I said I'd have a 1.2.5 version within a week to RAWRMaD, and I had it in 2 and a half days, so... earliest is a week?)

In the meantime, don't use this with Forge if you want the world to look it's best... the two don't play perfectly together yet. It's not a crashing issue, but Forge doesn't let mods do what this one tries to. I'll explain more when I make the Forge update.
EDIT: Made a compatibility patch for Forge build 152.

First 24 hours of the thread have passed. (This was just after the 24 hour period.) 13 replies, 400 views, and 55 downloads.
I started looking through Forge, and am overwhelmed for now. The feeling'll pass, but just in case, in a few hours from now, I'll try to whip together a compatibility patch so it can be used with Forge mods sooner, even though it wouldn't be a Forge mod itself. Making it Forge-based is still going to be my next major checkpoint, though.

My guess is that it's an issue with the ModLoader being for 1.3.2. It took me a while to find one for 1.2.5...
And so,

Made a compatibility patch for Forge 3.3.8 build 152 and added it to the download list. It's only a patch, and still requires v2.1.

(An easy way to check if it was a wrong version of ModLoader is to use MagicLauncher. MagicLauncher also lets you see the output log that isn't saved to file, but I think I removed most/all of the logging to that one. Still might help, though.)

I also noticed if you're using optifine, if you have Natural Textures on, it crashes your game. I don't know if this is useful or not.
