I've released a new version of this generator here:
http://www.minecraft...125-compatible/
^Go There^
The version linked to in this topic is obsolete. I'll leave the topic and downloads up for people who still have old versions, but you should use the new one I linked to above.

I've updated this generator for the Beta 1.3 format. I've also removed the need for GZip and fixed the reliability issues, so it's rock solid now (while still rather sandy Posted Image )

Download V2 here:
http://cid-f4a929c20...erator%20V2.zip

New Features in V2.0:
1. Adjustable Dune Parameters (let me know if you find a formula to determine really good ones)
2. New, dealy trap (it will probably kill you a few times)
3. Two new rooms (well, one new room, and one room fixed so it actually shows up now)
4. Better loot from chests
5. Dungeons are now depth-aware, and rooms get better the further you are from an entrance
6. Beta 1.3 format supported
7. No longer needs GZip
8. No longer crashes Posted Image

If you still want the 1.5 version, you can download here: http://cid-f4a929c20...20Generator.zip

This generator makes a mysterious desert, with volcanos, ancient ruins to explore, and more, all randomly generated every time. I don't want to give too much away, since part of the fun of these maps is exploring and finding out what's out there. I will mention that these map plays much differently on peaceful though, and may be harder than on normal. You've been warned Posted Image

Here's a few images to give you an idea though:

This generator is a lot more efficient than my last couple. It only stores one chunk in memory at a time, so the upper bound for how large of a map you can make is only determined by how long you're willing to wait. That said, I would recommend 64 as a good starting size, with 128 being good for SMP. A 128x128 chunk map takes 2 1/2 hours to generate on my system.

For people not running a Windows OS, I've pregenerated a 128x128 map here:

If you're having trouble with the downloads:
1. Click the link
2. Click the picture of the folder
3. Click the link at the top that says "download"

To run the generator:
1. Unzip "Primordial Desert Map Generator.zip" to its own folder, you should have Primordial Desert Map Generator.exe next to a folder named GZip which contains GZip.exe
2. Run Primordial Desert Map Generator.exe
3. Enter a map name (for instance "World1") and then a size in chunks. the size will be the length of the side of the map, so if you enter 16, you'll get a 256x256 block map.
4. Once the genreator is done (it will say "press enter to exit") there should be a folder in the same directory as the .exe with the name you have in step 3.
5. Copy this new folder to %appdata%\.minecraft\saves (or wherever the save files for Minecraft are kept on your system). Minecraft will only recognize the file if it's name World1, World2, World3, World4, or World5.
6. Run Minecraft and select the world that correspond with the folder name to play.

I've been generating a 300 chunk map for a while now. I'm going to use it on my SMP server.

Hey do you think you could make a chunk loader for normal maps too? I've been looking for a way to generate chunks for a long time and this is perfect.

There is diamond - possibly more than normal maps. You just have to look in the right places :Diamond:

Is there a way to run this map without INVedit? There are no trees around.

That's great! Finally a map generator that can make structures and buildings.

Hehe, hi :3
If you look around and if you have some luck, you may find an oasis with some trees.

Played this on hard, it's impossible without dying, because everything is dark and you don't really have many ressources. I didn't get far into it yet, but I'm trying to do this without cheating, on normal difficulty ^^
Good job!

It'd be nice if we could generate maps like this while playing, currently Minecraft's generator doesn't have much variety to offer, which is important!

EDIT: Oh yeah and it's really, really slow. I don't think it should take _that_ long.

You might be able to find logs in chests, I haven't found any yet though.

Great work mate.
I am thoroughly impressed with what you have done here, and would go as far as to say that this is the best map generator that has ever been posted on this site. I loved the fact that you have to go on a large trek just to find your first tree, if only because it seems to have given me a profound appreciation towards saplings.

Trying to hike through a desert nomad style has been one of the funnest experiences I have ever had in Minecraft and the whole experience reminded me a lot of the anime series "Desert Punk". =P

However the speed of map generation is ridiculous, and is defiantly worth trying to speed up.
But all in all, thanks for making this, and keep up the good work.

I know of a couple improvements I could make that should speed it up a bit. I don't expect I can shave more than 30% or so off of the creation time, but I plan to see what I can manage.

I have a few suggestions if you plan on making more of these:
1. Make just really big deserts, with not as many long twisting paths
2. Make some snow realms with those AMAZING mountains you can generate so well
3. Not i suggestion, just saying that I love it ;3
