Your java installation is out of date, try updating it

can you play from the website (ie is it only the launcher that doesnt work or vice versa)

run this from the command prompt to clear minecrafts temporary files:
rmdir /s %appdata%\.minecraft\bin

I downloaded the last Java and it still doesn't work.

I can play from the website.

How do I run the command prompt?

Try removing all previous versions of java, so you only have the newest left on your computer.

Just did this, still nothing changed. Are you sure it's Java-related?

I don't, it's the command itself that isn't working for some reason.

I think your Windows is broken if cmd doesn't work.

Cmd itself starts but it doesn't execute the command properly because it can't find 'something'.
