The one block type outside is repulsive, there's no contrast or anything that breaks up the cobblestone. The little amounts of wood for roofing will not make it "Multi-blocked".
The actual shapes used for towers and main halls are very, very basic. Nothing that make it have dimension, do you understand what I mean by that? It's just a wall, nothing intricate or patterns that break the cobblestone, again back to problem one.
The problem with such big structures is not just the outside, but the inside as well; it needs as much work and intricacy as the outside needs, which you're lacking on both sides. The lava walls with the glass isn't something that is attractive or interesting. Nothing new that can't be replicated in ANYONE's stuff. The really basic two blocks, wood and cobblestone/smooth stone sequence. The bookshelves themselves don't bring enough in to add "flush color" and intricate decorative designs.
I'm sorry if this sounds like blatant criticism, but I wouldn't say this if it wasn't true. Nothing will ever make me remember this if this if the final design for the place; honestly I don't like much about it at all. I'm not an elitist to creations on this forum either, I do enjoy multiple works people do because they add lush color and depth to buildings/structures that make them interesting and memorable. Yes, two months is a lot of time and you should be proud of what you did, but when you then remember that those two months of works will get a few comments like "WOW" and "Nice job", but they won't remember it. The people on this forum are sometimes afraid to pick out flaws, but if no one did that, no one would learn how to make interesting things for Minecraft or even in real life.
Thanks a lot! I'm currently working on all of the things you mentioned, and have been since even before receiving comments about the overwhelming cobblestone. I'm realistic. It's painfully obvious that the lack of variety makes it suck; I'm not going to pretend it's unique beyond a few features or superior to some other projects. I think I'll get better with experience, which I lack since this is only my second large build. I had to try the lava walls haha. I don't know how much I can improve on structure beyond a few things, but I'm getting there eventually as well. Sorry my title mislead you to disappointment.

I didn't ask for people to be nice.
There's no need to apologize about the title, yes, effort was put in, it was your two-month build; nothing in the title was blown out of proportion. As for your experience, I was there once too. It took me awhile and much time trying things constantly. Everyone was, you're never a professional building in anything without ever doing anything before hand. As for way to improve, smaller builds should be your experiments, I ended up working on projects that were sometimes too big to add enough detail to make it look good. I ended up using a style I enjoy now, and I've been working on a project for my own accord; the style I adapted was from inspiration of works I did on SanaCraft.
Also, having friends who also have a high expectation of building is a great way to figure out quickly how to improve since sometimes your friends or random people have the best ideas out there.
