Damage values wouldn't work with armor.

They don't have any special ID's.
Basicly, the armour has been slightly recoded to show a set colour depending on meta value.
The armour sprite is grayscale now.

There has to be some way to get the colored armor. I was watching a TF2 map with a bunch of famous YTbers, and they got dyed leather armor from command blocks.

There is no way to call it in via command block. You have to dye it yourself and put it in a dispenser. Thats how it was done in the video you watched. Trust me, ive been dealing with this problem since the command block released. The command block cant give enchanted items or dyed armor. If you want to give people dyed armor dye 64 of them the color you need and place them in a dispenser.

I think all the colors require a hexidecimal number or sumthin'.

Though I think the TF2 map used a infinite dispenser for the leather armor.

I am not sure it still works after changes done to leather armor. Sethbling used his mcedit filter to colorize armor

Pretty sure that that was bukkit or MCEdit

MCedit is outside MC, so it counts as Vanilla :P

They require a "colour" tag or something like that, which can be added in with NBTEdit, or with Sethbling's colorarmor filter for MCedit. There is no way of colouring armour with /give commands.

The color isn't stored in an ID or a metadata. The way to do this would be to put your color into a dispenser and set the quantity to -1 with MCEdit. Then, it won't run out.

I've been discovering a lot about the new /SUMMON command coming in 1.7. Here's an example that might help:

/summon Zombie ~ ~2 ~ {Equipment:[{id:267},{},{},{},{id:298,tag:{display:{color:3491355}}}],Riding:{id:"EntityHorse",Type:3,Tame:1,PersistenceRequired:1},PersistenceRequired:1}

This long line, which you can only use from inside a command block, will summon a zombie holding an iron sword and wearing a GREEN leather helmet will be riding a zombie horse. Neither the zombie or the horse will ever despawn, and because he's wearing a helmet, he'll never burn up in daylight.

The specific chunk dealing with color is:

tag:{display:{color:3491355}}

You can copy/paste this into any of the last four slots of the equipment tag (the first one if for what he's holding, which is usually a weapon. If he were HOLDING a piece of colored leather armor, then it MIGHT work in the first slot as well.

Here are the color values to use after the colon of color:

White: 14540253
Orange: 14384446
Purple: 11751612
Light Blue: 7047881
Yellow: 11642407
Lime: 4304440
Pink: 13665433
Gray: 4210752
Light Gray: 10133921
Cyan: 3042953
Purple: 8273333
Blue: 3029133
Brown: 5190175
Green: 3491355
Red: 9843760
Black: 1644054

Thanks to Extreme_Squid for figuring these out, and for Jailpod for the post on colored armor I found elsewhere.

Thanks! I tried '14' for red, just like the code for red wool,  wool:14
