Excellent. Art is always a big part of any sandbox game.

Personally I don't show off in Minecraft, I prefer to build projects and share them, not boast how great I am. Plus, imagine 40 players all using instruments, it'd be so loud and annoying. However the idea of a few players getting together with an instrument each therefore allowing for a full song to be played, is appealing. But this is a very specific niche suggestion. Normal Minecraft has evolved from land, to different varieties and biomes, from villagers to strongholds, and now trading and brewery. It sort of followers a step by step guide that would be the most sensible and reasonable way to go about it. Land > Different Lands > Structures on Land >  Different Structures on Land >  this would just appear and make no sense. But it's an amazing idea for a mod.

I really like this idea! Maybe if you craft an instrument with a paper sheet and redstone it would turn into an autoplay instrument, where instead of playing it live, you would a record button in the GUI, which would allow you to record your music and make the instrument play it whenever you start playing it. Oh, and would pianos be able to be dropped like anvils? Maybe a flute would be nice for a portable instrument.

Didn't think about falling pianos. That would be cool. But just one piece of paper and a redstone seems a little inexpensive, and there's already noteblocks for that.

Yeah, good point, but remember, the point of this is for more compact means of music making, but then again, autoplay sheets would make note blocks kinda useless.

But gravity is cool, maybe it would make a huge crash when it hit the ground.

I like this idea. It would take a lot of programming, but in the end, would be worth it.

Also, since Minecraft is a little medieval themed (with bows and whatnot,) maybe you should add a lute? Just a suggestion.

I've always had the idea of instruments in Minecraft... just never actually thought too hard about it xD Possibly, a guitar could be added?

For instruments such as the piano why not have it controlled by pressing the keys on your keyboard? For example:

Z=C, S= C#, and so on.

A Cmaj chord would be Z,C, and V. Just an idea :)
