So I had this idea for a new biome in Minecraft, I call it Mesa. It would resemble such places as Utah, barren, wide open plains with large mesa rock formations made out of a new block type; Red Rock. Red Rock would be a new stone type block only found in the Mesa biomes.
With this new biome would come new Minecraft wildlife. The biome could be home to hawks/eagles/falcons (new feather type?), coyotes (darker colored alternative to wolves?), roadrunners, bobcats, mountain lions, etc etc.
There would also be villagers that inhabit this biome, they could live in villages constructed within the mesas.
(example below)
One more thing before I go! It might be cool if you can befriend one of the birds I listed above (hawk, eagle, or falcon) and that bird would fly around you giving you a mini map. Just an idea!
Anyways, thanks for looking at my idea guys, if you have any comments about it or suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks again.
As an official biome it might be vaguely interesting, but these types of formations are seen already, though not quite as rocky or desert-y, and somewhat irregularly.
I could see people liking this. I know I would. Imagine building a house attached to the mountain.

I think this would be good as a sub-biome (as a new biome it would look too much like a desert). Imagine you spawn in a desert and you come across a majestic arch of 'red stone' (best I could come up with) and you now you got where your going to build that desert town you always wanted.
Hey, I've been to the location of the mesa villages picture, that place is called Mesa Verde, I think. I tripped and almost fell off a cliff there. Seriously.
Support for the biome, and only a few mobs. Maybe a vulture, coyote, which can provide a color alternative to the white wolf, and a roadrunner. We should have the coyote chase the roadrunner every so often and have it chuck anvils at it.
And we could all recreate Clint Eastwood westerns with this...

The seem awesome, they should make the desert look like this! Ravines in the mesa biome could be like canyons, and abandoned mineshafts out in the open would be common. But instead of villages make them ghosts towns, an empty village made of wood and having new towers like the bank. And if they added all those mobs other biomes would seem practically empty, with only farm animals and hostile mobs. Instead of coyotes just make them wolves, and tortoises would be a nice addition. 75% support right now.

Oh, and support, it would be cool.
