People have made assumptions that doing this or that fixes the problem, but most likely it won't fix it. Minecraft javaw.exe won't always just stay there every time. Sometimes it will keep running the process and sometimes it'll actually close the process.

I've reached about 6 javaw.exe's that take up about 4GB of RAM. but my CPU stays very low like at 0-10%. Also my RAM usage was at around 96% Usage which should have resulted in a blue screen of death; however, nothing happened.

I think from what I've seen, it may be the new minecraft update with ATI Graphics cards. Everyone I know that has been having this problem has a ATI and everyone that I know that don't have this problem are using a Mac or NVidia graphics card.

I'll tell you what doesn't work.

1. Clean update still causes the problem.
2. Using a different launcher still causes the problem.
3. Using batch files still causes the problem.
4. Whether it Crashes, You click the x button, you press terminate the process, or you click the Quit Game button, it still causes the problem.
5. Deleting 1.2.5 minecraft that for some reason gets downloaded in force update still causes the problem.
6. Clicking End Process Tree or End Process still causes the problem.
7. Using mods or not still cuases the problem.
8. Having Java 7 Update 5 or Java 6 or Java 7 Update 3. It doesn't matter. It still causes it.

A lot of people have just been uselessly saying these things fix it, but you have to understand that sometimes things like this doesn't work for everyone. Maybe just you.

I am for SURE that problem originates from Minecraft. It may be the compatibility between Minecraft and Java or the Graphics card.

But this problem has not occured to me ever, until 1.3.1 came out.

I can also confim all this. I have a Raedon graphics card and have tried everything. Nothing works.

Well my graphics card is built into my computer's processor. I'm running a quad-core and my drivers are all up-to-date. I heard other people had this probem, but had different graphics cards. It got fixed when they updated their drivers.

The biggest probem for me is the nearly constant crashing and the "javaw" process that does not stop once Minecraft closes. You also cannot kill this process through task manager. The only way is to restart your computer. Also, everytime I close Minecraft (or it crashes) and I open Minecraft again a new "javaw" process will start and run until I restart my computer. Multiple javaw processes will build up until they crash my computer from eating up all the RAM.

Actually,

When I had the problem, these "dead" javaw.exe did not take real RAM. They would say they took lots of RAM, but it never crashed my computer with BSOD saying I was out of RAM. Actually, when I started another memory hungry program or game, it would automatically close those javaw.exe to make room for that new program. It's been confirmed by couple other people. Maybe you try yourself too?

All of my computers have this issue. That includes a Win XP HE computer, 3 windows 7 computers, and a Windows 8 Computer. I dont think it involves graphics at all, becuase the same problem occurs on AMD Phenom XII x2 integrated graphics.

Spoiler: Multimc Console

What do yall think?

Ello everyone.

So I found a solution that works SOMETIMES.

In my Task Manager, there was 2 Java's opened when I encountered this, java.exe and java.exe *32.

I ended java.exe *32, and it ended fine. I then tried to end java.exe.

At first, it did nothing, but then it's RAM usage decreased slowly to 0, then java.exe closed.

Doesnt work all the time, but anything that works is good enough for me.

Apologies if this wasnt already suggested, didnt look though this whole thing :)

Cheers!

I'm having the exact same problem, every time i close/restart minecraft a new one appears. this also impedes me from editing my minecraft.jar to update/downgrade from the snapshots. It always says: This action can't be completed because the file is open in Java™    Platform SE library. I am currently raging. -_-

I have posted this on Mojang's new bug site.
Give attention to it so it can be higher on the agenda!
https://mojang.atlas.../browse/MC-1408

I just tried this, pretty sure this is the solution. I tried logging in on both single and multi-player. Process ended just fine. :D

If you have K9 Web Filter installed on your system, that is what is causing this issue. Remove it, and it should pick right up. Essentially, it appears that K9 is screwing up the Snooper feature.

I do not have K9 installed, but I have also been having this problem since 1.3.1. Usually it is preceded by Minecraft freezing and requiring a force close through task manager, but sometimes it just happens when I exit normally. The process javaw.exe will not close, whether I say "End Process" or "End Process Tree". It doesn't happen 100% of the time, but when it does it requires a reboot to get rid of the process.

If you have the program K9 web protection on your computer uninstall it. The files mess around with the Java.exe closing process.

I used to have this problem and that was why.

I to have been having this problem since 1.4.7 at the least. I really need to have this fix because I am constantly needing to restart my computer because of this.I close minecraft, open it back up.Every time I do the java count gets added to the task manager. And since it says it's still opened, I'm not able to delete mods or install them until I restart.I am also having to close my Minecraft even more do to a HUGE bug. After so many times of going into multiplayer, I would go into multiplayer again to choose my server, and find that none of the servers are loading there info (basically polling endlessly). If I refresh the list in this state than my Minecraft freezes forever until I kill it in the task manager (it only kills the one that is currently open, not the ones that are open but really not).I'm begging you guys, please help!!! Has anyone reported this to Mojang yet? if not PLEASE DO

Ok. For those who need a summary for the fix.
If you look carefully for fixes on the MC Mods forums, you'll find 1 or 2 mods that'll fix your problem.
This has been reported to mojang already by me.
https://mojang.atlas.../browse/MC-1408

For most users, this is caused by a program called K9 Web Protection. It's a web filter to prevent people from accidently(or purposely), go into sites of nudity, pornography, crime, violence, phishing sites, unsafe sites, etc.

This problem with the RAM leak is not on Minecraft's side.
This problem has to do with another software that is running on your computer.

For most it's K9 Other ones haven't been reported yet.
