Thanks for this, I've been waiting for a while for a mod to come along that would allow me to undertake my very obscenely overachieving hugetastic project that I'll likely never even complete. I had no issues installing or getting this to run, but have encountered one small issue while playing that may or may not be related to this mod:
The world I created is layered, from the bottom up, as 2xNether, 2xUnderground, 1xWorld, 1xSky World, and many many empty overworlds. I didn't count how many but I'd say at least 20. Now, at world creation I did not have any lag or framerate issues, nor have I since, but while flying up in creative mode I have encountered a phenomena where my screen freezes and does a little vibrating shimmy. When I have F3 up, even all of those data readings freeze up while the screen shakes. Note that I do not suffer any loss of framerate either before or after the freezes. This began occuring somewhere betwee the y+2300 to y+2400 mark, and has continued up to my current position of about y+2700.
FYI my layer heights are set at 1024. Also the pie graph on F3 indicates "render" as hovering right around 70% most of the time, and "tick" taking up the other 30%, with the other categories each contributing a small sliver.
If you can offer any insight into this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks again for the great mod!
edit: The only other mod I have installed is SPC. Also, the lighting up high is really funky. It doesn't seem to update properly so like, if I drop a torch then pick it back up, the light from the torch stays.
Alright Ivorius and MineT3485; this Height Mod is now listed and summarized in my Higher Worlds thread along with every other Minecraft Height Mod that has existed.
The Intro/Summary I wrote for it is the longest I've written to date. There are just so many things to tell and say regarding this Unique and Wonderful Mod!
Again, great work!! Thank you both for all that you have done and will do for this community. You are making the world a funner and more exciting place!
btw: Now that MCEdit is opensource perhaps one of you, or someone else, could add some management code to MCEdit to make accessing separate MineUp 'Layers' worlds easier to do from within MCEdit without having to move the contents of DIM folders around.
Heck; The ideal would be for the layers to stack inside of MCEdit just like they do in-game; but the first step is just getting it to be able to find and recognize any and all such layers even one at a time and being able to shift between them from within MCEdit. Adding this will make a HUGE difference in ease of use and adoption of MineUp.
Hm, I haven't really thought about modding MCEdit up until this point. It's a great idea, though I don't really plan on putting too much time into it. Getting full layer support, even for something like MCEdit, is pretty much work. I think I'm gonna look at the code, and if it's good, I'll fully implement GravityCraft support. If it's too stressfull, I'll just add a MineUp recognition and give the player the option of which layer to load =)

Hm, that does sound weird. I never tried such incredible heights, because the nether, for example, doesn't generate at any higher height than 128... I'm gonna look if I can reproduce that issue. If I'm able to, I'm can fix it for the next update =)

That would be great! That ability alone would make a huge difference.
It might be a good idea though to warn people that if they wish to retain any degree of MCEdit and other 3rd party compatibility for their layers that they might want to keep their individual layers at the default 256 height for now. I'm not even sure if MCEdit is currently able to recognize and handle Anvil worlds at greater than 256 height? It would be a good thing to test, and to possibly modify too if you start messing around with it.
Jeb just tweeted that 1.3.2 will likely come out to address the Nether Portal bug that is killing people.
So enjoy yourself a little time off Ivorius. (Except for the MCEdit thing, you can work on that now, heh heh)
Then I'm probably going to catch 1.3.2 as quickly as possible. I already picked up programming though (not MC) because just playing games when there's nothing to do is quite boring. Well, that didn't last long
I love the mod but I have a problem that is already mentioned on page 2. Random lava source blocks seem to appear in mid-air when new chunks are generating.. They are also fairly common and cause significant lag. If you could find a fix to this problem that would make this mod even more amazing
Here is my layer setting if it helps (probably does ) :
Layer height - 128
Layers:
- Normal world -
- Underground -
- Nether -
Hm, that does seem like it's a problem with the underground layer. When I tested it, I didn't notice the bug, but I will try to reproduce it later. I should be able to dix it for the next version =)
Where is the text description of what it does? I scrolled through the original post three times looking for it, but all I see are movies and meta-information. I cannot be interested in a plug-in if I do not have any idea what is for.

Please please please let official plugins API be Java-aware. Maybe not Java-centric, tho. (looking at you, Oracle vs The World)

Here:
MineUp adds the possibility to fully customize your world Layers, and thus creating a world of theoretically infinite height. GravityCraft adds the possibility to rotate any entity to stand on walls, and change its gravity strength. If you don't quite understand, watch a video =)
That's what I wrote within Contents. It's the quickest summary I could think of. If you want to get more in-depth, you will have to read all the item descriptions, or watch a video

thank you for your response. It seems like the above should be the first thing in the post, and definitely not hidden in a spoiler box.

It's not in a spoiler box. Usually, people want something to watch for the mod (videos, images -> Insights), that's why that is on top. Directly below there are the contents, which is pretty much the synonym of 'Okay, so what DOES this mod do?'. I hate reading through pages of items and blocks myself to see what the mod does, which is why I kept this part as short as possible
Bukkit won't be needed anymore soon. I will not try to start understanding all the Bukkit API now, but instead build upon Mojangs own Multiplayer API. As you might know, Mojang hired all the Bukkit devs to improve Minecraft
But if Multiplayer support is what you're asking for: Yes, it will come with the update to the newest Minecraft version. When that will be I can't quite say
What is your layer height set to? If it's below 128, the problem simply comes from the World Layers generating over their dedicated space. I had that before, but fixed quite a bit of it. It may be that there may still be fragments left, though I would not think so.
I have observed this happening at all world heights of at least 128. The lava, water, or fire appear in the "spawn layer," when the bottom layer is nether or underground, unless the bottom layer is the spawn layer (NB: I have observed this phenomenon for all types of spawn layer except underground, where I have not taken the time to look for it). I find that much more lava appears if the bottom layer is nether, and that water appears if and only if the bottom layer is underground.

Could you also make a tool that sets gravity horizontally for yourself, similar to the gravity rune, but sideways. I just don't like having to place blocks to walk on walls.

Hm. Well, that's not very hard to do. I will add it in the next version
I'm more interested in a vertical gravity staff since it's not always easy to put a mob on the wall
Yeah, you're right. I did have problems regarding that as well =)
So, two new runes equals two new staffs. Again, they, too, are easy to create, so I will be able to simply add them in the next update

Wow. Nothing more to say here
