As of mcpe v0.2.0 the info for player.dat is stored in level.dat. it is pointless to install it on a world if you have v0.2.0 or above
nope its level.dat
the player.dat is now replaced with the enities.dat so its pointess to install it

By the way, MCEdit, although it checks for the existence of player.dat to detect that the world is a PE world, it never actually uses it, so you can rename any file to player.dat to get past the MCEdit restriction.
