Hey Guys,

today I wanted to try out the demo of minecraft, but every time I enter my login details and press "Play Demo", the game stucks in its loading screen and nothing happens.
No files will be downloaded.

I am running Windows 7 x64, using Java 32 bit ( I hate the 64 bit version )... I dont think this is the problem, take a look at my log file please...

Force Update isnt working too.

I had to setup my environment variables.

First of I do recommend 64bit java, minecraft runs better on it.
Also you also will hava a java.exe and javaw.exe in you c:\windows\system32 folder to make a sort of shortcut for java and run the settings you (or the installation have set) in the java control panel

Next up, I do have a question about the userprofile you blocked out, does it have a ! or any accented symbols in it?
Java doesn't like that too much generally

Also a none related small tip, when you want to redirect stderr to stdout. Try it with command  > log.txt 2>&1

There's a growing number of us with this exact problem, I'd started to create a list of us here, so hopefully we can find some solution en masse.

Hi, whether java.exe or javaw.exe in C:\Windows\System32\ nor an shortcut.

my Userprofile is my name. No special characters.

Hmm, java installs always two exe files there, java.exe and javaw.exe.
If that is missing, something else went wrong as well while installing java, can you try to reinstall it in that case?

After installing the 64 bit version (I had to set the environment variables AGAIN by myself. This cant be correct!), I have java.exe and javaw.exe in C:\Windows\System32\ ...

But, still not working. Shall I remove the 32 bit version of Java?

<xales> DamienC, Starbreaker08: This would appear to be a problem with the
demo on Mojang's end (the launcher is broken); I'll try to get
someone to look into it, it should be fixed in a day or two. The
demo is relatively new, and Mojang is a fairly small company, so
this is pretty normal for things to not work the first few days.

Launcher is broken.

The demo launcher is a fairly new thing from Mojang, so expect some bugs. I believe that if you report any kind of error, Mojang will get right on it and fix it. But all-in-all, be patient, if you aren't the only person having the problem, than it will be fixed.
If you need help, or just have a question, feel free to post in my help thread here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1398909-mr-davis-97s-help-thread/#entry17014723
