I'll still post here, but as of this moment OceanBlock 3.1 is redundant and no longer supported.

OceanBlock 3.0 is here! This is another ground-up redo of OceanBlock.
No lava.
No stone.
Just you, some trees, and a couple friends.
I made the original OceanBlock after the 5th time or so falling off the side of SkyBlock
It's gone through some iterations, and with the release of Minecraft 1.3 (1.3.1, actually) I realized that there was no way the current version of OceanBlock (2.3) would suffice. So I re-made it from the ground up AGAIN!
CHANGELOG:
3.1 minor bugfix release. Changed all leaves to "Natural" leaves instead of "Placed" leaves. Removed emergency chest from hardcore. You do NOT need to redownload if you've got an established world, though you should redownload if you are going to start new, especially if you're playing hardcore.
3.0 Initial release. You can pretty much make or trade for everything in the game, eventually. If you're smart
When you start, there is no lava. There is no stone. You'll be working with wood until you can get iron tools, either from a mob trap or from Iron Golems, or from trading with villagers.
There is coal on this map. And diamonds. And obsidian. And all of the Nether blocks. And Nether Wart.
And you'll need it all.
Rules, Notes, and Challenges
(Some of these are from Skyblock, though many are unique to this map)
(Can't see spoilers? Just click here.)
Rules:
Do NOT purposely drown or otherwise kill yourself to regenerate your health. Food can be sparse to begin with, but between apples and rotten meat (hey, it's an emergency!) you should be fine. With luck, a villager will tade you some melon slices. And you can always use bonemeal on the grass to get wheat seeds.
Do NOT visit the Mainland until you have completed all challenges. This is a flatland biome so there's not much there anyway, but even the dirt should be restricted to what you can get in the ocean. And it's FAR too easy to get animals there.
Do NOT visit the Mainland in the Nether either, until you've completed all challenges.
NO Mods, Hacks, Flying, etc. No going to LAN mode to turn cheats on. If a mod doesn't help (optifine and the like) that's fine. But nothing that will make this easier.
Play on at least easy difficulty. You need those mob drops anyway.
Post pictures of your achievements and progress!
Have FUN!
Notes:
Villagers are dumber than rocks and suicidal to boot. Protect them with a passion. I suggest boxing them in until you've got a village for them to breed in. Then, box that village in.
I put extra leaves on the trees to start, to increase the odds of getting saplings. However, it is still possible to be unlucky and not get a sapling from one of the trees. Especially the Jungle tree. Either do without, raid the emergency chest, or restart if this happens. I personally recommend getting the trees cut down first and breaking all of the leaf blocks to see what you get, so you don't waste time building anything before you know if you need to restart.
The "island" is on the corner of 4 chunks. All 4 of those chunks will spawn slimes. You're welcome
Mobs (including slimes) won't spawn on bedrock. In case that comes up.
If you build your Nether portal so you could watch the sunrise or sunset through it, it'll match up nicely with the portal in the Nether. If you don't, they'll be at 90 degree angles to each other and nobody wants that.
There is an emergency chest on the normal map. It's not exactly hidden but it's out of the way. It has a few critical resources that you start with, but could lose. For the ultimate challenge, try to do everything below without ever opening that chest. NOTE: THERE IS NO EMERGENCY CHEST IN HARDCORE.
Most of the resources you'll ever get are on he 6x6x2 block you spawn on, but there are some goodies available elsewhere on the map and in the Nether.
This point of this map is doing the most you can with renewable resources, but certain non-renewable resources are available in bulk if you're willing to do the work. In particular, there is a near-endless supply of dirt and sand... somewhere.
There are 5 biomes in the world. The Jungle tree is in a jungle biome. The dark water shows you were the swamp is. It won't rain in the desert. The 4th quadrant of the map is a plains biome. Finally, the very 4 center blocks are the only place it'll snow.

FAQ:
How do I get cobblestone? Where's the Lava?
For the majority of this game (until you get to the Nether) there IS NONE. This is not Skyblock, no matter how similar it appears on the surface.
Anything you can do with cobblestone, you can do with wood. Except hold lava. When the time comes, remember that. I didn't and burned part of my village down. What about Iron?
Iron IS possible, though it's not easy or plentiful. Iron Golems are the best source of iron, but you can also get it occasionally from a drop from a zombie, when they attack the village or if you build an experience farm. You may also get lucky and have a villager who will trade you iron (or diamond!) tools.
Spawn Island
The Nether
Don't dig down!
I'd welcome any suggestions. If you make something awesome I'd also love to see screen shots or videos!
With flint and steel.
Before you ask, yes. There is gravel in this map. It's not obvious but it's not SUPER hidden. There's a hint as to its location in the block you spawned on.

I replied, but I probably should update the first post.
I handled this question in the "notes" above.
Welcome, and I hope you enjoy it!

Thank you! I hope you find it at least as fun as I found making it. If you do something cool, post pictures!

O yeah ;-)
alright
Sweet!
There is no secret island.
No, really, there isn't one. Unless you count the emergency chest which isn't very secret.
