And press the button. You should see the lit TNT entity, as well as a block that looks like TNT.
Putting glass water and a hole can negate the explosion if the lit TNT falls through the block. The block is then left for experimentation.
I've been unable to concretely determine the block's properties. Most times the lit TNT falls through it, sometimes it doesn't. The block disappears when right clicked. The lit TNT's explosion destroys the block. Most times the block can be stood on by the player. Drops seem to fall through it. It can be pushed by pistons, but will disappear if pulled.
A somewhat simpler set-up, here. Basically you just need to power the piston and the TNT on the same tick. It's an interesting block, but it disappears if you save/reload, which kind of limits its utility.

I new my setup would be beaten, just didn't expect it to be that fast. Good find.
Ooh you're right! I hadn't closed Minecraft since discovering it.
I read Your thread and decided to experiment some more with it
I made a model, which I can't show You because my computer is a freak, and duplicated an unlit TnT block. It happens that the TnT cant be lit or taken, even not in survival mode.
There is nothing new here. This is just a device that produces a classic client sided ghost block which is a very old server bug that has now in 1.3 been introduced in single player mode due to single player just being a local server in 1.3.
I made four of them right next to each other like this:
And they replaced the sandstone with themselves:
You can see that the TNT has redstone wiring on it. It almost seems to replace the block directly above with its texture, as items do not fall through these.
In conclusion, the block above the TNT before the redstone is pushed gets retextured, but keeps most of its own properties.

I'm sure some of you can find uses for this.
Ceci n'est pas une signature.

yes, that's the block I'm talking about.
That probably has it's uses. I can't think of any off the top of my head though.
Oh... okay...
