Had a chance to test out the 1.3 update pre-release yet? If not, the wait for 1.3's official release is nearly at an end - it goes live tomorrow! When the patch goes live, the client should prompt you to update automatically. If it doesn't, you can force the update to patch correctly by clicking the Options button on the Minecraft launcher, and pressing the "Force Update" button - easy!
We will be posting any updates that may have been included with the official 1.3 update; however, it is expected that the pre-release contained all the features present in the live version, to ease the transition for mod makers and texture pack artists into the new version.
1.3 is the largest update in Minecraft history (Maybe not as big as the adventure update). So yes, it is kind of a big deal.
Its no the largest as-in the biggest things added, however. It has hundreds of smaller things in it.
1.3's main purpose is for getting ready for one of the best things added yet; the Mod (soon to be called plugins) API
The full release of Minecraft was quite dull. People however were excited. And they are excited again. ^v^
What are you talking about? 1.3 is adding 2 new structures, the ability to write in books and read them, a new ore, TONS of ways to get experience, and MUCH more!
But then again, I see what you're saying. I won't really be happy until the Skylands and Red Dragons + Lairs are added.
Wait a sec. When do updates get pushed anyway? Midnight Sweden time? Or some other time? And just how much difference is there from a pre-release build to a final build when the pre-release becomes available just a few days before the final release is pushed to everyone? Just wondering. Anyone know?
I dont think that the pre release is much different from the final product (other than bugfixes) and i am stoked to see what will happen with the texture packs and what 1.4 will have in store.
Okay, two things:
1 - We should really get a countdown timer for bigger updates like this one.
2 - The "Upcoming Features" page on the wiki now lists 1.3.1 as the first "near future" update, but it still says August 1st. It does list a lot of bugfixes though so I guess a lot gets done in five days, although I'm not sure how.

The Pre-release just let modders and texture pack makers have extra time before 1.3. So not really any difference except maybe a bug fix or two.

Will the MineTV server be up for 1.3 by tomorrows show?
if you follow the thread for 1.3pre, they got way, way more than a couple bugs going on here.
And there's so many features I completely forgot about that are coming with this update... Soooo many weeks of snapshots I lost track :|
P.S. It's Time to MOD!!! But I won't have access to the computer until the 16.
