Well, I was experimenting with lava designs in my custom map but now I can't get rid of it!
It takes forever to surround it all with blocks and then fill it! Is there any faster/easier way to do it?

Put a block directly on the source of the lava to stop the constant flow, use a bucket of water to turn the rest into cobblestone.

Place a block on the lava source block and it will all eventually disappear after a while.

That doesn't work. I've tried numerous times before this thread. The problem is it flows off my floating island all the way down to where the bedrock layer should be.

If you don't mind using mods I think the drain command in World Edit could help.
This is a signature. There should be something here....
Oh wait! There is!

If the problem is huge, use mc-edit. I believe it works with the newest version of Minecraft.

But you will be surprised how much time is wasted trying to save time, so I would simply suggest covering it with gravel or stone.

I am afraid there is no easy way to get rid of lava. I am often frustrated by the long time it takes for it do disappear.
Removing the biggest blocks of lava first may cause some of the smaller ones to disappear on their own.

I remember when you could remove lava just by covering the source block.

I wonder what compelled the shmuts at Mojang to change its behaviour?  It makes lava griefing all the more annoying. :u

Find the flowing source and replace it with a solid block (for example dirt).
