DinosaurWizard Presents...
Hello and welcome to my thread! So basically after playing a whole bunch of other CTM maps I decided to make my own series, Tyrannical Turf! Just like other CTM style maps my maps are designed to challenge and put stress on the player while, hopefully, retaining some semblance of fun. Expect yourself ending up in all kinds of horrible traps and situations that will challenge you and require some use of your brain to survive.
The basic premise, like most CTM, is that you have to find and complete a monument. In my series its called the Puppy Monument(because I like puppies ok?). In order to complete the monument you have to find all 16 colors of wool scattered throughout the world.
In addition to wool my maps will also have 11 hidden records that only the most persistent players will find. These won't be required for map completion and are solely just in as an extra bonus.
Doesn't sound too bad right?
well.... hee hee(you will die)
Tyrannical Turf Standard Rules:
1. Find and complete the Puppy Monument.
2. Find the wool in chests do not use sheep, dyes, or spider string(you can make wool for beds).
3. You may craft the Iron, Gold, and Diamond blocks.
4. Use at least Easy and never Peaceful (I balance around Normal).
5. Do not leave the boundaries of the map.
6. Survive in any way you can think of.
7. Some maps may have specific rules.
8. No cheaty mods. Such as inventory editors, fly mods, etc. Mods that do not effect game play are fine(optifine is ok).
Difficulty Ratings:
Easy: Vets can still have fun here, but perfect for squishy noobs.
Medium: The perfect balance of challenge. Vets will feel right at home.
Hard: You gonna die.
Cruel: I only make these maps for my own sick enjoyment. Imagine me laughing maniacally while you suffer over and over again. You'll never win one of these

TYRANNICAL TURF #01: MYTHIC WATERS
This map is fully playable in minecraft 1.3.1
Fair Warning: This map suffers from first map syndrome and is crazy imbalanced. In the future I plan a major overhaul of this map. At the moment I recommend looking for another CTM to play until my second map is released!
My first real Minecraft map! This is an island based map where the player finds themselves stranded in a strange ocean. Explore all the islands and see if you can complete the monument.

This banner is alright but I'm always on the lookout for something better! If you've made one then please post it in the thread, If I like it I'll post it here and include a special item for you in my next map!
WAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA, You called me to your topic, and I have stolen the first post. Despair!
-Ahem- Sorry, I've always wanted to do that.
Anyway, Looking at the screenshots, I can see the similarity to Sunburn Isles you were worried about in Vech's thread. However, from what I can see here, it shouldn't be an issue. Loose similarity and copying aren't the same.
I'll go ahead and download it, pull out an unmodded (well, less modded) minecraft jar, and get right to it.
I'll tell you what I think as I go, okay?

Started playing your map about.. 40 minutes ago or so, very nice so far, and I've barely even cracked the surface haha. I'm still raiding the first cavern area.
Here's my current inv, I also have two chests on the boat with the prison full of random items.
I have yet to explore that area of the cavern.
I will explore that area of the cavern then most likely go here. (Looks very interesting!)
But yeah; so far already it seems like a great map! I will let you know if I come across any issues and I take my time on maps (which is why I'm rather slow) and try to look everywhere haha.

Thanks for the feedback! And go ahead and take your time playing the map there's a lot more to see and do once you reach the surface. I'm not actually sure how long it'll take to do a complete play through since I haven't even finished my own yet /hang head in shame.
Oh and I love the screenshots but is there any way I can get you to put those in a spoiler? I wouldn't want the map to be spoiled for the rest of my raving, gigantic fanbase /sarcasm.

Pleasure is all mine haha; and yes I can! Really sorry about that, I did spoilers at first but the text editor went screwy when I was first putting them in.
Thanks! Hopefully the map only gets better as you get farther along, that cavern was one of the first areas I made so I was still figuring things out.
Okay, I'm back.
I've acquired some frequent die-r miles, so I deserve a vacation.
I'm approximately where Devoflores seems to be. I've raided the safer part of the cavern, and I'm holed up in the bistro. I want some whale meat and bacon.
I have two dungeons
The Ghost Ship and "Too Easy"
half-done (don't ask.)
Anyway, I LOVE your attention to detail. Your loot handouts seem just about right, along with various "filler" loot (like books).
My one word of advice is on your next map, take advantage of the erode tool. Some of the MCEdit brush strokes are obvious, especially around the ghost ship. It doesn't bother me, personally, but I was poking around the maps directory and a map was singled out as having "obvious MCEdit brush strokes." I've been obsessing ever since because I don't want to be -that guy- who gets singled out for an obvious mistake.
Anyway, I don't have school on fridays, so I'll play more tomorrow. For now I'd like to get some work done on my own map. Dungeon 2/8 is structurally complete, just gotta do some detailing (stone to gravel, loots, monster spawners, you know the deal.)

ok your third on my list.
map one is done but uploading and map2 is stating soon
P.S. thanks for uploading a zip file instead of a rar file.
I have to go searching for zip maps because I don't know how to upload rars to minecraft so I can play them
Hi there! I just wanted to say that the screenshots of your map look so amazing! I want to play it right away, but i have to finish dying repeatedly in Nightmare Realm first, haha. I also love the name "tyrannical turf". It's very original

Thanks! I hope you'll get around to playing it eventually I tried Nightmare Realm three different times and each time I died and ended up in the endgame area(although two times I could have sworn I slept in a bed.) So I gave up and played Legendary instead, which quickly became my favorite SH map followed by Kaizo Caverns. So yeah. Have fun dying!

The brushstrokes aren't too bad in general, it's most visible in the islands above the cove. Sorry to make you worry, apparently my brand of OCD -IS- contagious.
I posted two screenshots of Dungeon II, Deepsand Quarry, on Vech's Thread. Page 1283, last post. I was gonna post it here for your benefit, but I don't want to be showing off my own work on such a young thread of someone else's. Does that make sense?
So I have dungeons II and IV done, and I'm almost done with dungeon I (Long story with the weird order).

Well I'm gonna not try to worry about it too hard. I am a rookie map maker after all. But I will take your advice and do my best to make it all look natural in the next map. I remember thinking something similar in certain areas of the map when I was making it. I guess I was just lazy and hoping nobody would notice.
I did see your screenshots in Vech's thread but I'll just tell you what I think here. It. Looks. Awesome!
Holy crap why are you even playing my dinky map?
I was wondering about the sand on top though, is it just the ceiling or are you going to put more stuff up there? And I would like to see it in a vanilla minecraft texture. Just because I don't really tend to use texture packs.

Yeah, brushstrokes aren't a big deal. It's a visual -detail- that we can get away with, but, say, Vechs couldn't. I probably spend more time worrying about that than I should (It still bugs me that if you use Rei's minimap, you can still see part of the quarry is perfectly oval at the mouth.
Thank you so much!
You shouldn't slight yourslef though, I was thouroughly impressed by your work when I logged on. I literally went "If this is my competition in first-map-makers, why am I trying?" Weird, I guess it's easier to nitpick your own stuff into oblivion while being amazed by other's works.
That sand's not the ceiling, it's actually y=64. The quarry just goes down to bedrock (only a 1-block thick of stone covering bedrock in some areas). I realize it's undetailed, but, as I may or may not have mentioned, I'm saving my dungeons as schematics and I'm going to insert them into a landscaped world. Well, three of them, anyway. I've already completed IV and I posted those images of II, and 1 is almost done, but I'm being lazy and watching Avatar: Kora today.
I really need to ask Vechs for an opinion on the size of my map, given I want it to have 8 dungeons, and my dungeons are larger-than-average, and if I want decent spacing, what dimensions (X/Z, not Overworld/Nether) should I use? Sunburn islands is probably as big as maps get (the later dungeons are SOOOOO spread out). I'll insert those three into the world, continue landscaping, and actually build the other 5 in-map. VIII is gonna be HELL to build. In fact, I dread the entire storm region.
Yeah I know how you feel actually, when I first saw Vinyl Fantasy I felt like giving up. Those maps are freaking amazing! In fact I still feel that way sometimes. But instead of feeling intimidated I just pretend Vinyl Fantasy doesn't exist. lol
So from what it sounds like your map is open worldish? I wouldn't worry about size too much just keep the schematics of all the dungeons saved so if you need to shuffle it around or make it bigger it'll be easy. I should have done something similar for my map but instead I just made it all in the same world.
Also, I should get started on my second map(I already have evil plans). But instead I'm playing Dota 2 and generally being lazy.
Yeah, I might just continue my process of "Build dungeon in flat desert map, save schematic, and import to the final world." It's a little clunky, but I think it'd be easiest to Build a landscape, determine where I want the dungeons, and set them appropriately.
