Update 3/17/13: I've updated this mod to SSP for ModLoader only. In a few days I will release the server version and Forge, and eventually this mod will be Forge only.
Notable bugs, V2.1.0: - Choalken eggs appear as snowballs when thrown - There is no pillar of smoke when the Choalken egg lands - The Dark Bow texture stays the same when pulled back
If you have Optifine and Forge installed, the textures in this mod might not load. I wouldn't recommend using Optifine with Forge, cause textures from lots of other mods won't load either.

Changelog:
Since I'm starting to add lots of new stuff I decided to add a changelog for every update. If you wanna see the changelog for older updates, you can look at my posts in this thread.
V2.1.0
- Updated to Minecraft 1.5 for SSP and ModLoader only. V2.1.0 has a few bugs that will hopefully be sorted out soon.
New features:
- Added a message when you shoot something with your Dark Bow that says "Mob's experience increased by <amount>
- Carrots and Potatoes can grow on Dark Farmland
- If any seed is placed on Dark Farmland, it will still grow at night, or whenever it's dark so you don't need to put torches around your farm
V2.0.2
- Updated to Minecraft 1.3.2 (I thought it would work fine if you just used the 1.3.1 version, but apparently it didn't.)
Special version (Only for Minecraft 1.2.5)
- Updated everything from the current Minecraft 1.3.1 version of this mod to 1.2.5 for people who still play 1.2.5 (I personally hate 1.3)
V2.0.1
- Changed some of the Dark Arrow's functions when it lands
- Fixed fire staying at the spot a Dark Arrow landed
- Fixed Scoaleton and Choalken eggs not doing anything when you use them in multiplayer
- Fixed some other bugs
V2.0.0
- Added Dark Bow
- Added a new type of chicken, the CHOALKEN! HAHAHAHA!!!! - Added Dark Arrows - Added Dark String - Added Dark Feathers - Added Coal Egg - Added Spoiled Chicken
- Choalkens drop Spoiled Chicken and Dark Feathers. - The only way you can get Choalkens to spawn is by throwing a Coal Egg at the ground. - You can shoot Dark Arrows with a Dark Bow (go figure). Dark Arrows currently don't do much besides looking cool and setting things on fire. I'll change this soon. They make a smoke particle effect, and when they hit the ground, you just have to wait a few seconds until it sets the ground on fire. Dark Bows have 3x more durability than a normal bow. - Fixed Katanas not losing durability when breaking a block.
V1.7.0
- Updated to Minecraft 1.3.1
V1.6.1
- Fixed a bug where Dark Bone Meal was infinite
- Added Minecraft Forge server configuration
- Added some new configuration options
V1.6.0:
- Added Dark Bone Meal. Right clicking on farmland with this will turn it into Dark Farmland.
- Added Dark Farmland. If any type of seed is placed on dark farmland, they will grow about 2x faster than normal. This block takes slightly longer to mine than normal farmland, it doesn't get destroyed by explosion, and you can't jump on it and turn it into dirt. Breaking this block will drop 1 Dark Bone Meal. This is slightly better than bonemeal since it's basically infinite.
- Added Dark Bones. Scoaletons drop 1-2 of these when they die.
- Added Katana. This is a very rare drop you can get from Scoaletons. It's the same item that Scoaletons hold in their hands. Hitting an entity with it will set them on fire for two seconds. Each time you hit the same monster, it will add 1 EXP point to the amount of EXP the monster drops. If the Katana has 3/4 of it's durability, it adds 3 EXP points for each hit. If it has 2/4 of it's durability, it adds 6 EXP points for each hit. If it has 1/4 of it's durability, it adds 10 EXP points for each hit. This function does not work on servers
- Reduced Scoaleton speed by a little. Features:
Scoaleton Installing this mod will put a rare mob in your world called Scoaleton, which is the main part of this mod. (get it? Scoaleton? ahahahahaha) The Scoaleton is just about as fast as you are when you're sprinting, and holds a Katana in it's hand. Scoaletons drop 0-2 Dark Bones when they die, which can be crafted into one Dark Bone Meal. They will also drop 15 EXP, 0-9 coal, and very rarely a Katana. They also have a custom sound, and will explode at daytime since they're made of coal.
Scoaletons will try to kill any Villager or Skeleton they see. If you're lucky enough, you could find one fighting a skeleton and sneak up on it and get the kill.
Choalken The Choalken is a chicken made out of Coal. It doesn't spawn naturally, but can be spawned by crafting a coal egg. Throwing a coal egg at the ground will create a pillar of smoke, and the Choalken will fall from the top of it. They drop Spoiled Chicken and Dark Feathers. Keep them out of the sunlight though, or they will explode. (if you set that option to false, they will catch on fire in sunlight, which I guess isn't good either)
Dark Arrows You can shoot Dark Arrows with a Dark Bow (go figure). If your bow is fully charged and you hit a mob with it, it will set the mob on fire and increase their experience value by 12. If it isn't fully charged, it increases it by 4. They make a smoke particle effect, and when they hit the ground, you just have to wait a few seconds until it sets the ground on fire and explodes (the explosion doesn't break any blocks, don't worry). Dark Bows have 3x more durability than a normal bow.
Dark Farmland Right clicking on Farmland with Dark Bone Meal will turn it into Dark Farmland.Any seed placed on Dark Farmland will grow about 2x faster than normal. Dark Farmland can't be destroyed by explosions, and can't be trampled. Breaking Dark Farmland will drop 1 Dark Bone Meal.
Katana Hitting an entity with a Katana will set them on fire for two seconds. Each time you hit the same monster, it will add EXP to the amount of EXP the it drops when it dies. The lower the durability of the Katana, the more the amount of EXP the monster will drop when it dies. This function does not work on servers

Good Job Bud! I remember making a mod is really frustrating and stressful but at the end its worth it. If you need any help promoting or with any of your mods you can send me a message! I know a bit of coding as well.
The new Scoaleton model is waaaaaay better, good job!
No matter it's been already said, good job for a first mod! You explained it very clearly and with pictures. It's rare to see new modders doing the op properly!

Thank you! I'm glad I actually got the new model to work. I spent so much time trying to fix it and it wasn't working, but right when I was about to give up, the last thing I was able to do worked
- Added a spawn egg for the Scoaleton. If you don't put the texture for the Scoaleton egg into minecraft.jar, it will look like a leather helmet by default.
- Scoaletons now attempt to kill villagers.
- The Scoaleton's health is now 70 (was 60 before)
Multiplayer doesn't work with this version, so if you're gonna do multiplayer, you have to download the older versions.
Scoaleton V1.4 is out. Hopefully these don't count as bumps, but I don't feel like just editing the thread without posting anything. Changelog:
- Scoaletons now burn in the sun and will try to hide at daytime (they also take a lot of damage from sunlight)
- Works for multiplayer again
- Added custom sounds for the Scoaleton
- Maybe some other stuff that I can't remember
I would appreciate some feedback, cause even though this mod isn't very impressive, I do spent a lot of time on it because I'm a new modder.

No matter it's been already said, good job for a first mod! You explained it very clearly and with pictures. It's rare to see new modders doing the op properly!
- Added multiplayer support
- Gave the Scoaleton an ID (85), meaning you can spawn it with singleplayer commands and stuff
I always thought making a mod multiplayer compatible would be really hard, but it actually isn't O_o

- Scoaletons now burn in the sun and will try to hide at daytime (they also take a lot of damage from sunlight)
