Please at least skim through this post, or you'll be slaughtered horribly and repeatedly. Familiarize yourself with the server and prepare.
The server is being run off a very fast connection in New York. It is lagless for those of you living near there, and should have a more than decent connection for West Coasters and Europeans.
The Server and its Goals
This is a hardcore server. We are not for the faint of heart. Dying is very easy and carries many consequences. If you do not band together with other players, you will die. It is a lawless server where anything that can be done goes.
The server stands out due to its focus on both PvE and PvP aspects. The factions coupled with the scarcity of resources such as coal, iron, and diamonds create wars over resources, wars to raid the chests of your neighbors for what they have accumulated.
The PvE aspect is something else entirely. The monsters smell your blood. They will walk toward you, and they will stop and nothing to get you. They will dig through bases made of inadequate materials and blow them apart. Nights are often spent fending off the armies of monsters pouring through the hole they made in your wall or roof. The classic first-night hidey-hole will not work here, as you will be dug out and massacred.
While our main goal is this intermeshing of PvP and PvE combat and the tensions of resource scarcity, it is also important to us that we be fair with things such as moderation and donation benefits.
Moderators do not have any powers outside muting, kicking, and banning players. Indeed, not even the admins have any special in-game powers. You do not need to worry about abuse from them.
There are currently no donation benefits, but they are in the works. Be assured that they will be benign, and provide something worth donating for but not unbalancing to the server. Remember, we play on this server too, and that is the last thing we want.
Our two admins have much experience. I, myself, operated one of the oldest servers in Minecraft. It went on for nearly two years before being shut down for good. You don't need to worry about any 14-year old admins giving out god mode for $15, or flying around planting infinite amounts of TNT in your base.
On Death
We run MCMMO. You lose 50% of all experience on death. On top of this, as a hardcore server, there are is no teleporting to other players and you can only teleport to your faction's home once every 40 minutes - and even then, only when you're in a safe area. If your faction is far away from the spawn area, this could prove problematic for you. There's also the given of losing all numerical levels and your items.
Additionally, you have a certain amount of manpower. Each time you die this is decreased by one. For each ten minutes you survive, this is increased by one. Faction power dictates how much land your faction can own.
Player vs Player
If a faction's power is lower than the amount of land it has claimed, another faction can claim the land of the low-power faction. The more you kill the players of the enemy faction, the more their power drops, the more of their land you can claim.
Monsters
Remember, all of these monsters will constantly find you and will attempt to kill you. The main four monsters you'll be encountering are as below:
Zombie - Slow-moving. Can dig through all common building materials. You must reinforce your walls to protect against these guys. High health, medium damage.
Health - High
Damage - Medium
Speed - Slow
Skeleton - The main damage-dealing force. They do massive amounts of damage to unarmored humans, but are extremely brittle - dying in one hit by a sword of stone quality or greater.
Health - Very low
Damage - Very high
Creeper - Base-busters. These do no damage to players with the exception of the fire created by their explosion, but will enlarge holes made by zombies and catch fire to wooden fortifications. Damage from creeper explosions (NOT the fire caused by them) will begin regenerating after 20 minutes.
Health - Medium
Damage - N/A
Spider - Can climb walls, adept at throwing you into massive pits of monsters when you're standing on top of a tower.
Health - Low
Damage - Very low
Factions
Factions are the most important part of the server. If your base is going to survive, it's going to need the cooperation of more than one person.
/f help will get you started on factions.
If you want to jump right into it, type /f list, ask for an invite from one you'd like to join. Once you get the invite, type:
/f join factionname
Then, /f home to your new base.

Looks real good, some glitches with the hunger though. Other than that, it's a bunch of fun. I already want to burn everyone's faction to the ground with the glorious power of LavaMilk XD
Would anyone else like or support the idea of a /spawn command and a small non-pvp area? It seems like many of the pvpers that want to gamble their stuff to get some loot like to go there. I feel that if it is disabled (this is just my opinion) the only pvp you'll see is raids and an uncommon encounter in the middle of nowhere.

I think that would be a pretty good idea, That would give people an easier way to meetup/trade, and provides a central point for pvp. Azrooh if you decide to implement this change, and if you are needing a little bit more of a spawn redesign, I can help you out there :D.
The server is coming along very nicely, I'm having lots of fun running from the hordes of mobs XD. I hope to see more new permanent faces on this server!

Why should there be an incentive to fight people outside of raids and an uncommon encounter in the middle of nowhere? You've implied this is a bad thing, but you havn't given any reasons why. I'm willing to listen, but I'm confused on that point. Fighting nearby factions for whatever you can rummage out of their chest is probably going to make up the majority of PvP.
Been on the server with a friend about an hour now, enjoying the challenging mobs, though spawn needs a redesign. Dropping from the spawn platform is near suicide with the sheer number of spiders and creepers loitering beneath it, not to mention the craters. We had to lure the mobs over to one side just for one of us to get a shot at hopefully escaping. A couple more chunks of protected safezone around the current spawn with a few piers extending outward might be enough to disperse that mob and allow for escape.
As for expanding the spawn area, a trading plaza and a PvP arena would be good, though I would prefer the spawn be kept small; no unnecessary structures, monuments, or block art, just a simple fort layout. The idea is to get people out of the spawn area and building or raiding forts. To that end, I've noticed faction mod servers with roads leading away from spawn, out to about 500 blocks or so, do help to disperse players a bit better so you don't get the usual blasted fort-scape surrounding the spawn as is typical on many servers, though roadway bandits might pose a problem if server pop takes off.

Yes, I agree. I need to find or have made a lightweight plugin that prevents monsters from entering the spawn and prevents PvP in the spawn. Once this is done, I will redo the spawn area with some of our best builders to make a nice, utalitarian spawn area full of info about the server.
Anti-crash script implemented. Auto-restart plugin added as a second layer of defense. My apologies for the crash yesterday and the crash last night, shouldn't happen again.
Still enjoying the server, slowly working on our base. Mobs and a less-than-ideal location have been making it a challenge.
A few questions:
- Are mobs able to spawn in water on this server?
- What are the damage and health stats for Slimes relative to the other mobs?
- Can non-faction players use levers/buttons/trapdoors/wooden doors and open chests on this server?
- Is there a public Teamspeak channel available for this server?

Glad to hear it!
1: I am not entirely sure. Spawning rules have not been changed, and I can't say I know whether or not they can spawn in water.
2: Those are unchanged from the default game - so pretty high health and low damage.
3: They can use buttons, levers, etc - basically anything that activates redstone. They cannot open trapdoors or doors unless it is via button, lever, or pressure plate.
4: The Prussian Army teamspeak is 74.91.116.171, you are certainly free to use that, there's often people in the Minecraft channel. If you'd like a channel for your faction, that can definitely be arranged.
The spawn has been redone. You now have access to /spawn, but you can only use it very rarely. It gives you access to a safe zone for as long as you need it.

Good luck!
Fixed a few bugs we didn't find during the beta.
-Iron golems are no longer infinite
-Beds are useable now
-TNT does environmental damage now
You'll be seeing me on here a lot more often.
Amazing job Az!

Indeed... spiders can climb over the walls, and people can let skeletons and zombies through the door. It's safer though.
