FPS drop making minecraft unplayablefps
Posted 15 June 2012 - 06:35 AM
yesterday I bought myself a new laptop:
-Intel® Core i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz
-8 GB RAM
-Geforce GT 630M
-Running Java 7 update 5
Minecraft was the almost the first thing I installed. I started playing and got an fps around 100. Suddenly the FPS drops, after about 5 minutes. From 100 to 3 fps. Pretty much unplayable. The FPS drops keep happening, and it seems to stay away longer, if I take longer intervals playing minecraft. I'm only able to play for about 5 minutes max.
I tried the following:
-Allocated 2 gigs of ram to Minecraft
-Tried Using optifine, multiple versions
-As the laptop has almost no programs, It can't be because of programs running in the background.
Both these options won't work. I still get the game breaking FPS-drop.
I've read a few topics about this being the games fault. If so, is there going to be a fix anytime soon?
Also judging from my system specs, it should be able to keep the game running at 100 FPS. I mean, if it can do it in the first 5 minutes, why not after that?
If more info needs to be provided, tell me.
thanks in advance

Isn't allocating 6 gigs a bit much for minecraft?
EDIT: Just an example here. I can run TERA online on the highest graphics, while recording with fraps without any problems or heat issues... Either something with java is wrong, or it's Minecraft itself. I really don't think it's my lap.

I allocated the memory, but for some reason it doesnt show up in minecraft. It says ''Allocated 50% (495MB)''
Which is not true because 495 MB is not 50% of my total RAM count. Also, I allocated 4 gigs now, not 495 mb.
I also don't get how it runs out of memory, because while playing MC it only shows using 10 - 20%..

If you have a 64bit system then download the 64bit version of Java, i have been playing for half hour now and there's been no drop in FPS, its stay above 200fps

Geforce GTX 550 ti
Win7 Ultimate 64-bit
Java 7 Update 5
I have had no temperature issue, tired optifine, i can play BF3 and TF2 perfectly fine, tried allocating 4gb of ram, restarting my computer... The only difference between everyone elses issue that i could see is i cannot play in a specific server. i have tried serveral other servers and have had no problem, except one in particular. I have tried everything. This all happened right after the server i played on restarted. I can play for like 2-3 mins then my fps drops from 150+ to 0-3 fps. Please, I really need some help!
