I'm not sure if I agree with charging money per update though. Having a donate button for people who are willing to thank you for your work in that way is fine, but it might be going a little too far to suggest that everyone ought to pay to see future efforts - particularly since we haven't really been familiar with your work, and don't have any guarantee that you'll follow up on this first port.

Not a problem, but for the record, that was a lot of work. I can't imagine writing it from scratch. Bucyruss must be a frickin' genius.
I agree with above. Appreciate the gesture, but posts like this with demands for donations shouldnt be allowed, will you refund all the people who donate up to 49$ if you dont make the $50? Otherwise I see this as a scam aswell, can we see the progress of donations? How do we know you will keep your word. Update constantly for a while and maybe you will earn the trust of the community.
It doesn't seem to work for me. minecraft freezes at a screen that says "updating minecraft" "done updating".
deleting The META gives my a black screen.
It's the SMP server version only. I should have clarified that. SSP comes tomorrow.
Please see initial threads for clarification on the donations issue. They are not mandatory, they simply determine my interest level. I'll update it occasionally regardless.

this
but I said it with alot more vitriol
just wrong
give us a working mod- and if we like it we might donate
hope this gets locked quick- before some unsuspecting kids start paying
where is that darn thread locking Juze when you need him??

Please see my edit. It seems I have touched a nerve, that was not my intention.
When I said $50 I meant that's what my client was paying at first to "get the ball rolling:". I by no means require that precise amount to keep modding. If no donations come in I'll still update it as I need it as well, but keep in mind I tend to be on a slightly different release schedule than Notch as updates to minecraft are concerned. I often run a version behind. Thus donations help encourage me to update, but they are not and will never be required.
I'm a freelance coder guys, time from this is time away from my job. I'll never STOP updating, but if there is not an immediate need to update for myself you have to understand why I ask for donations. I do not and never will charge for this, but donations will ensure more timely releases.

Ah... that makes sense. I just spent far too much time trying to get it to work =P
Donations are donations, he may be paid again to update it. If so we -may- reap the reward of someone's cash and another's hard work. He isn't scamming money from "little kids" as most everyone I know that plays this game is an adult. Sure there are kids on here, but I doubt very many are convincing mommy and daddy to donate to a guy that -may- deliver.
Thank you R-T-B. I may suggest you update your profile/signature with your hosting business and scripting services. By keeping this popular addon alive you could help drive business for yourself. There are other ways you can contribute to the community and make a profit that would bother people less. *thumbs up*

Yeah, considering for all we know the original creator of this mod may be dead or something, I can see how I touched a nerve. Appologies. I hope no one is thinking the same things they thought at first after my clarification though, I by no means want to be seen as profiteering off a dead/sick/missing guys intellectual property (I really do hope he is ok). If he comes back I'll be as happy as any of you. In the meantime, without proper source code I have to resort to deobfusication, and that is a lot of work.
Thanks for understanding.
PS:
I'm working on the SSP version now, for those interested.

The minecraft server loaded successfully, which was a pleasant surprise; however, the new terrain generated was not a result of BiomeTerrainMod. My settings in BiomeTerrainModSettings.ini were "Floating Land Masses" by "NaturalCauses," which can be found here.
As others have said, I appreciate your effort to revive this excellent mod, but mentioning donations on release comes across as a bit suspicious.
...awaiting others to confirm whether this mod worked or not in SMP. Perhaps I did something wrong?

It's possible it's badly broken still. This was a "0.1" release I rushed out due to pressure in the original thread. Thank you for reporting something isn't working, I've been waiting forever for feedback, and that's more useful than any donation. :smile.gif:
The only thing I tested tbh was raising the water level, which seemed to work. I'll try that file you posted and see if I can't get the intended results.
I am not going to be rude, but I just want to float this out there. R-T-B, don't you think asking that people pay you to service a mod for a game that you did not create, nor partner to in any way, is a bit unethical? Granted you own your intellectual property for anything you create for the mod but it attaches itself to a game which supports peoples lives. If we pay you to update this mod on future patches, would you give some of those earnings to the game's creators? Otherwise, making money of their efforts and product seem wrong.
Donations because we like and appreciate your work don't cross that line.
Holding code that hasn't been written yet until we pay for it, makes you look bad.
Something to ponder over...
*edit it seems while I was writing the situation has changed a bit... I'm posting away just to add food for thought.

Regarding modding someone else's work (I won't touch charging for it):
It's no more unethical than modding minecraft, which is Notch's inellectual property. Actually, the whole BiomeTerrainMod itself is based on Notch's own work. Some of it is present in the files, word for word identical.
However, as a gesture of good faith, I will be releasing the edited source code soon if that helps prove my intentions.
New thread. I put in a request to close this one.
I hope he's doing ok.

thanks for these updates R-T-B, was just about to take a crack at it myself.
Would this update tomorrow include the new stuff in it?
I would be very thankful for this. Just getting started trying to mod minecraft and would love to see how this works
