I figured that diamond ore should match the style of emerald ore since they are both gems, and I also figure since iron blocks were changed to look unique that so should diamond blocks. I noticed that emerald blocks seems to copy the pattern of the emeralds themselves, making a diamond shaped pattern, so I wanted to make the diamond blocks match diamonds as well with a raised square pattern like we see here:
So, I present to you my new texture ideas:
Ore:
Block:
Here are a couple comparisons against emerald:
And here is a 16x16 wall and 3x3x3 cube of diamond blocks, just to give you a better idea of what they look like in a group:
And here are some side by side comparisons with the old textures:
I really hope this is at least taken into consideration, and I would appreciate comments from other users since we are who the game is made for.
Side note: If you like the textures and want to use them in your own texture pack, please feel free to do so. While I would like credit, I won't demand you do so.
Also, I've pretty much given up on the ore, and I understand the concern about how iconic the ore texture is, so I would much rather get an opinion on the block rather than the ore.
To those of you who say this is what texture packs are for, please note that this the suggestions forum. The existence of a mod or texture pack should not be used to dismiss an idea.
I actually do like this. Maybe not copy emerald ore exactly, but something like it.
Well I figured I'd go along with the theme that they already had going, having all the ores look the same to add the feeling of simplicity to the game. Like iron, gold, redstone, and coal are all the same texture, just colored differently, so I figured I would just recolor emerald since they are both gems/crystals.
P.S. Thanks for the speedy support to both of you, by the way.
I really don't like this, I also don't like the lapiz ore or Emerald ore. But hey, still stuck in Aplha I guess.

Ok.... don't really understand this. /You never updated from alpha because you do not like lapis or emeralds that are completly optional to even mine?
Nah, I think he's saying he joined in Alpha, fell in love with the game, and doesn't like new changes because he's so used to Alpha. Since all ores looked the same back then, he doesn't like new looking ores.
I like the blocks, not the new ore.
I wouldn't like a changed ore texture, because it would lose familiarity.
I actually have to agree with this a bit. I like the idea of more uniformity in how things look, since it makes it easier for people to understand, but the diamond ore is very distinctive, and that's good for mining. The appearance tells you "Hey! See this stuff here? This is used to make awesome tools, and you want it!"
Just a base idea. Perhaps if that was also implemented they could be edited versions of these (or probably just the block since people seem to want that but not the ore, I just thought it should match emerald due to them both being crystalline).
Do you produce texturepacks? That block texture is great. I'd love to see it implemented into the game, but I think the ore texture should stay the same. I don't want to lose that familiarity aspect that the other posters have already addressed.
I have to agree with the other posters here, the block texture you have made looks good, but I prefer it if emerald ore was changed to look more like diamond ore than the other way round.
I think it looks how it is because originally the ruby ore would have looked like redstone so it had to look different. But then it was changed to emeralds.

To those of you who think that textures shouldn't be changed, read this:

Enter that and you'll score one hundred thousand rupees for us both, along with a spiffy card!
i like the textures btw.

Posting pictures to his twitter might be even better. (Twitter has a function for this.)
Agreed with great agreement!
