Did any of you happen to be around during the indev days, before the game had an infinite world available? A wonderful magic man named Dock let Minecraft have a taste of his fantastic 3D models, including Steve, Black Steve, Beast Boy, and the fan favorite, Rana. Among these four, Rana was the first to arrive in the world, stunning players with her unbending joints, animation-free movement and manly grunting noises. The model lasted a while, until Notch decided that Dock wasn't quite fast enough to keep up with the game's development, so the two artists parted their ways. Rana has been a fond memory in many Minecraft players' hearts, and nothing but a memory... until now!
Rana does exactly what she did in indev: nothing. She is a completely useless character model that is able to spawn in any location, day or night, caves or surface. She always spawns in large groups, from 5 to 9 no matter what. Though she spawns in huge groups, these groups are sometimes hard to find... and sometimes it will seem like they are taking over the planet! Fear not, because they are not completely useless in this remake: since it is rumored that they used to drop apples, each Rana has a 1 in 8 chance to drop 0-2 apples upon death (and maybe something else if you're really lucky). Since they're helpless, it's always a good idea to try to harvest them for what they're worth if you happen upon them. Use your sword and dissect them... FOR SCIENCE!
...or, you could try something else:
If you have a piece of string in your inventory, you can tether a Rana to you by right-clicking it. The Rana will be forced to walk behind you, speeding up if necessary. If you happen upon a monster while walking about with your Rana hostage, there's a very good chance the monster will decide to attack the Rana instead of you. Yep, frogs make good monster bait. But be careful, because the Rana can pull back on you if she gets stuck, impeding your movement, and if the string is stretched too far, it will snap and your string will be wasted. If you right-click the Rana again, or if the Rana dies, you will get your string back. You can even tether multiple Ranas (as many as you want!), as long as you have enough string. With that many frogs following you around, no monster will be able to touch you... or get anywhere near you, for that matter.
Abilities:
15 Health
Considered to be a Creature
Spawns rarely, but in large groups
Grunts like a real man
Occasionally drops apples (and something shinier)
Can be tethered with string and used as bait
Can be abused freely
Issues:
The high polygon count of the model can cause slowdowns
in less powerful computers, so be careful and set your render
distance to Low if necessary.
Changes:
Spawn rate fixed, now there is a maximum limit. No more will spawn after that, until they start to despawn.
Spawn rates at night are no longer ridiculously high.
_303 added a config file for customized rarity.
Instructions:
You must first install Risugami's Mod Loader before this mod will work. Please do not attempt to install old versions of the mod loader or spawnlist into the 1.7.3 client.
If you are using a Mac computer, search for a special Mac installation tutorial if you have problems installing the mod.
Once you've successfully install the two mods above, simply drag the contents of the zip into your minecraft.jar.
Disclaimer: This mod does not in any way promote child abduction or abuse. Rana is a frog, not a girl, and punching animals is something that most Minecraft players already do on a daily basis. Feel free to dissect them for scientific purposes.
your mob ideas are awesome, but why are you so averse to making a real model renderer since you need it so bad? as soon as I need it I'm going to write it, but seriously.

KodaichiZero - I love your mods and I like the backstory. I hopped on the Minecraft train at alpha 1.1.2 so I never knew about Rana and her banal existence until now. Thank you!
Does Rana move like she did before, or does she have animations now?

Well, alot of people wanted them back, so you've done a great job!
But next to that, I think quite alot of those people didn't want them as a mob bait :S

awesome, but pointless.
ironically, the non-awesomeness is the point.
I hope that made sense

Yet another great mod! I'm going to get one as a pet.

Wait, sorry... I'm confusing good things with the morally abhorrent. That happens sometimes.
gj on the mod, not really for me though :tongue.gif:
Uhh, you two have it all wrong... they aren't girls, they're frogs. They may look like girls, but there's nothing human about them.
Species name: Ranius Dockus, the Minecraftian grunting frog. and so on...
