I think emerald only spawns under jungle biome extreme hill biomes and generates around the same rate and levels (albeit similar) as diamond.

Emeralds only generate in extreme hills. I think they generate around y: 40 also, but they're only 1 ore per vein.

Emeralds do not spawn in veins. When a chunk generates, 5-8 stone blocks of that chunk have a chance to turn into emerald ore. The stone blocks are usually scattered, so it's very rare to find emerald ore close together, like a vein. Emerald's found anywhere from layer 40-1, I believe.

Emearld only spawns in Extreme Hills and only appears at a depth of 40-30 I think, it's also very rare.

Most ores can be found all together between layers 10 and 20. That works for all of them if you look on the Minecraft Wiki.

Layer 12. Its just above lava layer, so watch your feet.

Diamonds spawn on layer 12.6 and below.

Emerald ore only spawns in Extreme Hills and Extreme Hills Edge biomes, its 25% rarer than diamonds. Good luck.

A good layer to get all different ores is layer 11.6 in an extreme hills biome.

Diamond is most common at 12.62, (12) So I'd mine there.
Who needs anything else when you've got diamonds?

If you are mining I would stick with Layer 12-16. This gives you the best diversity of ore types including the rarer ones.

Go to the wiki; search "Layer."  Most of the answers in this thread are kind of wrong.

Everything can be found under level 16, but I personally dig with my head (my y-coordinate) at 12. This way, I'm in prime diamond range, and, if I encounter a pool of lava, it's at the perfect level where I can just pour some water on it and walk over the obsidian.

Epic Win FTW

Layer 14 is the best layer to mine at. It's a few blocks above lava, so you shouldn't have to worry about falling into a pit of lava. This is also the lowest layer for lapis to spawn at, so you're getting all ores, except maybe emerald, because that only spawns in the Extreme Hills biome.

I disapprove.
