Alpha v. Beta Alpha v. Beta is a team based tower capture & control PvP map.Inspired by World of Warcraft's Arathi Basin, Alpha v. Beta provides a fast-paced, high intensity, cooperative PvP experience. The map is designed with teams of 10 in mind and is recommended for teams of 5 to 15, although teams as small as 2 or 3 can be fun.
Join a team, choose one of 6 unique classes, and battle for control of the valley!
Tank - Strong defenses with average attacks, the tank can absorb lots of damage before going down.
Scout - High speed and mobility allow the scout to cover much of the battlefield quickly.Duelist - A deadly sword can quickly dispatch of enemies, but the duelist is fragile, and must be careful!Healer - A strong support character can bring teammates back from the brink of death!Ranger - Dominant at ranged combat, Rangers are vulnerable if you can get close!Alchemist - Powerful splash potions allow an alchemist to attack a number of foes at once. The Battlefield
The map consists of a spawn base for each team and the primary battlefield. The battlefield consists of 5 towers each with a unique landmark associated with it. Farm is right outside the RED base. The Church/ Graveyard is right outside the BLU base. The Ruins are on the central island. The Windmill is on the high ground overlooking the Ruins. The Mine/Quarry is on the low ground.
While a tower is controlled by a team, they earn one point per 20 seconds. The first team to 99 points wins! This means that as long as no tower goes uncaptured for a significant time, games should last less than 15 minutes.Capturing TowersIn order to capture a tower, you must flip the lever to your team's color. Stand on the pressure plate until you hear a noteblock "ding" and/or you see the light behind the button turn on (around 8 seconds). Press the button to capture the tower for your team, and get back into the battle! Your team will get points from this tower until the other team captures it or the game is over.
Alpha v. Beta should be played with monster and animal spawns off.
Additional Features
Spawn
- The map also features a lockable spawn room which has a great overview of the battlefield. When the locking mechanism is enabled, the spawn room will lock as soon as a tower is captured and unlock as soon as a team reaches 99 points. This is to prevent people who log on in the middle of a match from getting in the way or interfering with the teams that were established for that match.Team Selection Room - A large, guildhall-style room for choosing teams. This is the first room you'll enter after leaving the spawn room.Ready Mechanism - In order to ensure a fair start, I have added a mechanism for each team to indicate they are ready, which locks them in their bases and gives a countdown to the simultaneous unlocking.
Free-for-all Mode - Toggle between Alpha v. Beta and Free-for-all! In free-for-all, the gates are always open, the ready system is disabled, and you never earn points. Practice capturing towers, try out all the classes, and try to find all the special targets for some bow practice!
Plugins
Alpha v. Beta is designed to run entirely in Vanilla Minecraft. However, a friend of mine (deltini) has created PvP Utility to handle those things that are just not quite possible in Vanilla Minecraft. This plugin is recommended (though not required). It is included in the download file above, along with my config files. The map is Multiverse compatible, and its command blocks should very rarely interfere with other worlds.
- Instantly replaces broken gear in the correct slot as soon as it breaks
- Refreshes consumable stacks to 64 when 1 remains
- Adds configurable cooldowns for splash potions
- Increased throw distance for splash potions when crouching or running (you won't hit yourself with splash potions when you run)
- Adds team colors to names in chat and server messages
- Adds private team chat channels
- Adds team listing and join/leave commands

Do you know if these plugins are compatible with the newest release of CraftBukkit? I assume since this map is recent, that all should work well.
All of the plugins seem to be compatible with release 4, though I haven't thoroughly tested everything (Just got home from being out of town). If you notice anything that doesn't seem to be working right, let me know.
The plugin folders that you included in the download; are those only templates, or are they supposed to do anything? I get the feeling that I'll have to individually download each plugin, as there aren't any .jar files to accompany the config files.

i have the same question^^^ none of the plugins work and I don't tp when I click the signs in the meeting room.
Yes, you will need to download the plugin jars individually. The text file included in the download give links for each one. I didn't feel right including the plugin jars as I did not create them.
The download link here is slightly out of date (I'm still adding things every day, but haven't been re-uploading every day), but it contains most of the fixes and additions for 1.4.5

Just installed the mod, facing a minor issue, I spawn in the mines. What shall I do?
Disregard
Did you spawn in the arena near the mine tower?
Did you spawn under ground?
Did you spawn in the quiz room?
You should have spawned in the quiz room, which is directly below the mines. I may actually need to correct the spawn. I forgot to test it from a fresh install of the world. I'll do that and if needed upload a corrected version tonight.

To celebrate my upcoming 450th map review, I decided to add a list of my personal favorites to my review thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/260249-rsmalec
I'm proud to say that your map was one of the 15 in my list!
There is a server with this map: 50.31.24.30

Thanks for checking out Alpha v. Beta!
New error. I can't join red team...
Blue works fine, but red does nothing.
We got Red to work for two switches, but it broke once more.
Thanks again for your interest in Alpha v. Beta!
