I had created a server using Minecraft Server.exe file and it worked just fine. i used my external ip address and forwarded port 25655 and used it. after i played, i then typed stop in the gui and the server stopped.... next time i tried to load the server, it said that another server was running on the same port. i tried changing the ip, and the port, but the same problem occurred. i then tried using the .jar file, and i again had the same problem. when i remove the server ip all together, i can run the server on port 25655, but i don't know how to access it without a server ip.
it says it failed to ping the port
The exception was: java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: JVM_Bind
i don't know what the problem is, or how i can fix it. i do think it has something to do with me stopping the last server i ran on the say port with the same ip, instead of just closing out....
Here's a copy of the messages i get in the gui when i try to load the server-
[INFO] Starting minecraft server version Beta 1.1_02
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on 174.107.155.66:25655

[WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?
Delete server. properties and minecraft_sever.exe, then reinstall minecraft_sever.exe. It will remove all of your sever info but at least your sever will run.
Edit: Never use the stop command, your sever goes kinda dies after...

i did that. i i deleted all of the server info when i realized it wouldn't run anymore. i made sure all minecraft server info was gone before i tried again. i even cleared my recycling bin.... i check again but im sure thats not the problem.
yep. i deleted everything again, and recreated another server... same problem.
Ok... but are you going in there and filling out any information after it is re-created?
If so, are you filling server-properties with a value? Don't... leave it blank... that is the #1 cause of that error... #2 is if you attempt to start two instances of minecraft, the console on second one will throw that message.

i know... it works fine untill i try to add an ip. i used my external ip, but it didn't work. i don't have any other servers on my computer, but i had a previous server, but when i was getting off i typed stop into the gui, and the server stopped. next time i trieded to load the server, it gave me this message. then i deleted everying thing and tried again, and got the same message
Are you trying to salvage your old world? Casue if you are, you should probably use WinRAR to make a copy of it before doing all this. Also, since it seems like you've totally deleted anything and everything minecraft_server related on your computer, have you tried redoing the port-fowarding?

PLEASE HELP
If you are getting this error the fix is simple.
Either restart your computer or end the process running Minecraft Server. To do this open Task Manager, select processes and look for processes with the following traits:
Called javaw.exe or java.exe
Is using lots of RAM
(Sometimes) using lots of CPU.
Once you have found the process (if there are lots of java/javaw.exe processes close any other things running Java, eg Minecraft Client, etc) select it and click the "End Process" button.
Restarting your computer is a lot easier. This error is caused when another MC server did not close properly. Window still thinks it is using the *:25565 interface so it will not let another process reserve that interface (for obvious reasons).

The correct port number is 25565 not 25655. That might help

Your sever should connect if you don't change the IP.
