I wrote an MCEdit filter that can set biomes. There's a lot of very cool stuff you can do with this, including:

• Preventing ALL mob spawns in a certain area of your map
  
• Preventing rain and passive mob spawns
  
• Having areas of your overworld that spawn Nether mobs
  
• Having areas of your overworld that have a dark sky and only spawn Endermen

Just put the filter file into the Filters folder in your MCEdit installation, and it'll show up in the MCEdit filters list.

When I first downloaded it, I had a the 1.0 version (unstable?) of MCedit which is third on the download page. I'm pretty sure I had that one and it asked to update, so it updated. I downloaded the filter but it didn't show up, it looks like that version needed two versions of the file. Py and something else.

So I deleted that version and downloaded 1.1, first on the list which didn't ask to update. The filter showed up. I made an absolutely massive selection and made it a desert. It worked as usual, but when it finished and the chunks were rendering, MCedit closed and nothing changed. "1 unsaved  edit" didn't show up before it crashed, while it should. I think this is an unstable version so it can't handle large selections?

Look where you downloaded the folder containing all the stuff. It's named something like MCEdit-0.1.1win32. Open that folder, then the filter folder, and drag the setbiome.py file into it.

Nice for MCEDIT users.  But I rather use world painter, as it lets you paint in all biomes as you would painting a color down in photoshop/gimp/paint.

i know others have pointed out that the jungle biome is missing, i just wanted to do it as well couse i really need it. great tool anyway

Using this, I have actually changed the biomes of my city's various parks that represent the different biomes. Now if only if I could get a Jungle filter...
