Thanks everyone for the awesome comments btw, definitely makes me want to put in some more time and finish it as a downloadable map ;-) If you've got any suggestions don't hesitate to post them :-)
That's a good idea, although I would like to keep the map playable in the normal (non-modded) version of Minecraft as well. I've been thinking about Minecraft items that I could use to represent the Zelda items:
Heart container -> Golden apple
Potion -> Apple
Rupy -> Gold bar (so there'll be lots of gold, but since it's fairly useless in Minecraft this does not make things alot easier or anything)
Letter -> Paper
Food -> Cooked ham
Sword -> Wooden sword
White sword -> Steel sword
Magical sword -> Diamond sword
Magical shield -> Leather armor (full set)
Arrow -> Arrows
Bomb -> TNT
Blue candle -> Torches
Key -> Fishing rod
Blue ring -> Diamond armor
Power bracelet -> Diamond pick
(Haven't looked at the items inside dungeons yet.)
That is amazing, now all we need is a 16x16 texture pack made to look like more hi-defish zelda sprites (in other words, remake the sprites instead of just resizing and pasting the :\)
Except I'm not using an automatic rendering program, I'm making mine by hand.
I'm going with each Zelda tile transferring into a 4x4x4 tile in Minecraft.
@MajorVictory: always good to see more Zelda mapping!
@Mikeivore: yup, also going to use the nether portals for the warp zones.
@xViinski: All right, good idea =)
So: downloadable "beta" map coming early next week!
(there's a few issues that need fixing still)
That map generator you were talking about...will you upload that? I'd love to make generate some other video game worlds. (Pokemon R/B/Y ftw) Diamonds for you, good sir.
Do you have any programming experience by any chance? Most of the generating process is hardcoded as program code, so you'd have to edit the code directly to create any maps.
mu sugesstion is to use the more hwalth mod

Which I might do alongside my current pack.

However, your question led me to think about making the generator more generic, so you'd be able to use it without programming. I created a new thread here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1022&t=139563
And even though the darkness dawns... Brighter days will follow!
Try and convert some old Pokemon maps! <3
Great work so far.
EDIT: I think the candle should be flint and steel, since it spews flames.
