I downloaded the game client off of the main website, but when I try to start it I recieve this error.

.Net Framework Intialization Error
Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application.

Can someone please tell me what this means and how I can fix it?

Thank you.

What OS do you have? Is your java up to date? Do you have the newest .net frameworks from microsoft?

I find Apple's OS prices amusing. They make you pay so much more for air, and many people think it's the OS that's putting on tons of money. But no, it's just the air inside the case.

I don't know which .Net version is required...

You could try installing whatever .NET redistributable packages that MS offers for WinXP.
Or you could download the JAR launcher instead (same download page @ minecraft.net, but other Other OS)  which you only need Java to run.  The commandl ine necessary is documented on the download page and you can put it in a BAT file that you can just click and go)
