Hey everyone,

I'm trying to get rid of cheaters and hackers on my server and I've already installed the basic NoCheat bukkit plugin but the hacked client people seem to be using is from Nodus and as far as I can tell NoCheat doesnt do a good job at stopping it, they have auto-hit and stuff like that so on a PVP server it ruins the fun for legitamate players. If anyone knows of a plugin to stop these hacks please let me know.

Thanks in advanced.

Really NoCheat, NoCheatPlus, and the in dev Essentials NoCheat are the ones that really do anything. There is not really anything else that works as well than those.

Auto-hit is hard to prevent, and one can argue impossible, forcefield can be the same way.

If your server is 24/7 you need to make sure you have active staff who get notified when NoCheat detects cheats and ban them when they see common patterns. When you come back in the morning you'll have to scan through the NoCheat log and ban players who appear commonly and roll them back (if they made a base, etc)

NoCheat(+) is pretty much the only plug-in so far that can help defend against hacking. kNoHax is a less-commonly used plugin, but it works the same way.

If you really want to prevent cheaters joining your server, you'll have to get a plugin which forces Spoutcraft to join, or simply whitelist the server. Although, this isn't recommended because as I experience myself, I clearly write as a server title 'whitelisted' in bold, full caps, and sometimes 'spoutcraft-required' and yet ten odd people attempt to join the server at once.

If a hack does anything that you can do normally in-game (i.e. auto-hitting is like turning around and hitting a mob/player) then it can not be stopped. This also includes aimbot and autotool. The best way to stop these is to watch your players pvp from time to time. If they do it while, say, inside their base, then spy on them with VanishNoPacket. The way I fight hackers is using hacks myself (i.e. using a cave-finder in a base to find xray tunnels.) Plugins won't solve everything for you.
By the way, NoCheatPlus is much more buggier than NoCheat. Using NoCheat is a better option.

Play on an alt account that people don't know is you and fight some people. It's really obvious who's using forcefield/aimbot/etc. IP ban a few people and make it known on the server that you did it, and 90% of cheaters will be too scared to risk it.

Vanish helps a lot, as does DisguiseCraft because you can disguise as random non-admin players and observe what people do when they think no admins are watching.

The best way to find cheaters is to cheat yourself. Nodus is actually a helpful admin tool for finding hidden rooms and 1x1 downward mineshafts. You can also easily monitor the IRC and look for players on your server that are connected to nodus's irc. I also recommend installing mcbans. Although a lot of people don't like the idea of a global banning system, it's nice to have a little confirmation if you suspect someone's cheating and find they have bans on other servers for hacking. Never take bans on mcbans too seriously though, a lot of server admins are very ban happy, and sometimes ban people they plain don't like or who haven't even joined their server.

Another thing you can do is ask any suspicious players to say '-help'.  By default, Nodus won't send this and will run a command instead, so if they can't type it they are using a hacked client.  Of course, they could use '-chat -help' to say '-help', but most Nodus users aren't clever enough to RTFM.

The only problem with alerts are the fact it may be false at times, and the innocent guy winds up being the hacker, while the convicted hacker is truely innocent.

I don't know if your still watching this post, but I found a plugin here that tricks nodus players to put their name in a config file for you to deal with later. I would still test it to see if it puts innocents in the config file, and just as a percaution I am not responsible for any banned non-nodus users.
