hello

we have suffered with this problem for months...    we have sorted our problem by disabling the wireless network adapter in the computer we were using (which was an old 'b' or 'g') and instead used a new usb 'n' wireless adapter - and it has solved this problem for us!!

we spent ages searching the internet for a solution, and am posting this in the hope it might help someone else and save them from the stress we've had with it!!

Nah, it's not a memory issue or an issue with my PC. It only happens to me during the night time. At other times everything is working fine, all chunks loading quickly, no chat lag, no chest/container opening lag, no block drop lag. Only at night time I get all those lags. And it is only minecraft servers. Other types of game servers don't have any issue for me. Connecting to a LAN server or a server hosted on my LAN has no issue for me either.

Turning the video settings down (render distance to tiny, minimal particles, no clouds, etc) seems to have helped for me.  Not really great for scouting around finding things to raid, but neither is crashing every 20 seconds.

Hey all,

So I've encountered this problem a TON recently and in the past.  Although this issue can be flakey, sometimes it lasts months (as some of you know).  I think the issue for a lot of you may be joining servers that do not have a lot of ram...etc.  If you're on a server that runs like a BOSS than you most likely wouldn't encounter this issue.

With that being said, most of us enjoy gaming on private servers with a few friends and the friends comp may not quite be up to specs for a recommended quality server.  This can be part of the issue.  The other fix that I found worked was turning my firewall off.  Gameplay for me went from not being able to open chests/doors to/seeing broken blocks to all of the above in a timely manner.  I also went from around 20 fps to close to 55 fps after turning the firewall off.  If this fix does not work for you, I'm sorry you probably have some bigger issues at play.  Hope this helps!

This most likely worked because different routers have different firewall settings.  Newer routers seem to be more "game friendly".  Glad you got the issue fixed!

Not a RAM issue for me. The s erver I am admin on is a beast of a machine with 64 gig of RAM. It makes no difference what server I connect to, I get this problem with every server between about 8pm and 11pm. It's a network latency related issue not a machine performance related issue.

It always happens to me during those hours, but if I am already connected to a server when 8pm comes around, I have no issue. At least not until I disconnect and try to come back in again. Once I get a stable connection to a server (either from being connected before about 8pm or from several reconnect attemps) everything is fine (again, until I disconnect and want to get back on again).

I believe it is something to do with how my ISP (or some point in the connection between my ISP and the various IP's around the world) is handling TCP packets around that time of night. Minecraft uses TCP for multiplayer connection instead of UDP, most games use UDP for multiplayer. I don't have any network latency issues with other types of games.

After much heartache. I think i have figured out the problem. :3

please do not make my mistake and reformat your whole machine!

It looks to be an issue with DNS. so try something like this, worked for me!

Start - Run - cmd - ipconfig /flushdns

Please let me know if this helps!

nope didn'tt work :) but my internet connection got a speed boost :D

i think the problem lies in the fps. i have playd minez for like and it's really.. really annoying when this happens. Like.. i saw myself getting killt by a guy from a distance, like the guy was hitting me and i was watching him hitting air, but he was really hitting me and then not the javanetsocketitme read time out came, but this time it was Disconnected: EOFException : null @ java.io.DataInputStream:-1 . this is new.. this started happening when i moved, i haven't played for a week.
I'm now searching for a solution for like 7 hours straight. sometimes i don't have the probleem troughout the whole game till i die and restart . and all i have come up with is that my laptop is overused/overheated and it needs a new fan.. (overuse of fps..) i think that's the reason.. that must be it why we get kickt out. i went banana's on every admin there was there because i thought i got kickt all the time :P
but it's really an auto kick to make the game not lag.. i tried to change the Performance of the game to it's original settings, i tried evrything :) but i really think my laptop is just being a little kitty
anyway i think we should ask mojang for a solution.. i say we vote! in the name of pie

I FIXED IT

I followed what some other had suggested and requested the admin of my server to delete my player file (playername.dat) and afterwards I was able to play.

My guess as to why it didn't work (at least for me) is because before this error I had been banned from my server back in July 2011 then when I was unbanned a few days ago, when I logged in I still had my inventory from a year ago, So I think with all the game updates that happend between July 2011 and Oct 2012 my player file became outdated and would explain why it would be a server issue only with this server and effecting only me.

Just delete your playername.dat from the players folder and then when you log in next it will read you as a new player and create a new file thus fixing this problem!!!!!

I gues that's for when you have a server running :) i search for that file but no success..

I have the exact same problem and I have made a thread for it. I know it's not my internet as it works perfectly on my laptop running on the same network. It has to be something else.

I am having this problem too. Not just on my own online server but on others too. Waiting for my friend to check to see if it's just me, but I have a feeling it is. I'm starting to call it ghost mode because I can really only exist as a ghost for a while.

Also, I am behind a router, and even though I have the port forwarded on my modem (should I even have to do that?) to my router and on my router to my ip, and i'm pretty sure it is all right, any port checker website I try always says closed for any ports. But I read somewhere that they may be open anyways. But I don't know if this has something to to with the problem. On my modem I have the port 27365 forwarded to router 192.168.1.47 (modem is 192...1.1)

my routers internal ip is 192.168.0.1 and my laptop's ip is 192...0.6, so i've forewarded the port on the router to .0.6, so it's forwarded on both router and modem configuration pages

static ip set to 192...0.6
default gateway 192...0.1

dns server 192...1.1 (modem, listed as dns server)

is that the way it works?

I'm going to reset them tomorrow and see if that doesn't fix minecraft because I can't access my modem page right now for some reason. I will try to make an update post

My computer does the same thing as this but instead of only one server it is all of the servers and I only play for about 2-11 seconds.  Then it logs me out and says:

Internal Exception: java.net.SocketException: software caused connection abort: socket write error

I don't know how to fix this problem.  I was thinking that it was the firewalls that have been put on the computer but I'm not totally sure.

I reset my modem and router and that fixed how I couldn't reach the modem page, but in Minecraft servers I still have the unnatural lag and keep getting kicked after a few minutes with the 'java.net.SocketTimeoutException: read timed out' error.

I have tried deleting my player.dat file from the server, updating java, shutting off firewalls, updating intel network card driver. What kind of routers are you guys working with? Could this be a port issue?

Guys, I've had some real success today. I think I've fixed the problem for me.

What I did was I went in where you configure your static IP address, and I changed my DNS server. It was 192.168.1.1, which showed up in ipconfig as my DNS server when I had it set for a dynamic IP, so I thought that's what it should be set to. Well I changed it to a DNS address I found online 208.67.220.220 (There are many that you can use, performance I guess varies by your location) Well this has so far stopped the error. To be sure, my internet is slow, so I still have some lag, but I'm no longer getting kicked.

Will update when I find out how it works later tonight. Hope this is it and works for everyone
