I've noticed this for a while now ever since Jon nerfed Zombies so they actually have to see you to aggro on you(Unlike other mobs that can see you through walls), but I always thought they can see you through doors.  They can kinda see you, but lose track of you after a while.

And this breaks their door breaking feature, making it almost  useless. They'll bash on your door for a few seconds, look off in another direction, and walk away as if they've lost you. This is not a rare thing. This happens with almost every zombie that I lead to my door.

Basically happens like This:
Zombie walks up to door, and bashes on it:

Zombie looks another direction, as if he was losing track of a player:

Zombie walks away:

Does anyone else notice this? Or am I just going crazy? This is on 1.2.5 FYI.

Honestly, I think Zombies should charge at the player the same way they do with Villagers. They keep charging at Villagers until they get out of range. Not when they go behind a wall, like players.

I have no idea. Maybe it's just the zombie lost interest in you.

I did notice this, on a server. Thought it was just another SMP bug.

When it happened, I moved away from the door. So I figured the zombie only lost sight of me because I moved away from the door.

This happened to me literally 5 minutes ago, except a zombie saw me through a window, looked at me for a good 5 seconds, and just walked away.

It was amusing.

Um, no. Only spiders can see through walls.

Zombies don't bash on doors because they are trying to get to you. They just really hate doors (i.e., they're programmed to attack doors).

And I don't think zombies could ever see you through doors. I might be wrong, but I don't remember it ever being the case.

I'm sure I've had a skeleton come out of a corner charging at me with his pathfinding when I've never seen him.. It might be walls that are only a few blocks think, and spiders can detect you through any size wall.

The new ai made the mobs super easier then the old mobs. If they can't path find to you + see you. They don't go after you and with the smaller generation area...

And now mobs like creepers don't blow up, if skeletons hit them...

Pretty meh. I know the old ai was basically wander around, chase player if see, or anything that hits them last. But at times that ai is better, more random. And in the case of lava, cliffs, and things. It was more funny or unexpected.

I still support some of the mobs like 50/50 spawn running a copy of the old ai and the other half have the new ai. That way its less boring.

You're not sexy enough.
I was going to give you a +1, but then I saw your signature say, "If I helped you in any way, just click that plus sign over there!" So then I didn't give you your +1.

Zombies should be able to see through walls and spiders shouldn't (zombies smell brains).

The only mobs that can see through blocks are Creepers and Spiders. Zombies will attack any door they happen to walk across.

Zombies are suppose to forget you after a while. Like is they cannot reach you after a short period of time or you are quite far away (not above the range detection), they just wander away. But they seem to have forgotten about doors when they did that.

Don't bother testing this in an NPC village since Zombies will completely ignore you there since they're after villagers. Just saying for anyone who doesn't know about this.
