What are The Hunger Games


What is The Hunger Games Mod 2
The Hunger Games Mod, or THGM as it is often called, is a Minecraft Mod designed to bring the Hunger Games experience to your Singleplayer Minecraft Worlds. It is maintained, developed and was created by alexmack929.

THGM currently only supports LAN Multiplayer and there are no plans to extend this capability.
If you're looking for a great Multiplayer Hunger Games experience I recommend MCPvP.


Features
The Hunger Games Mod, in its current form, contains the following features:
- Four new weapons from The Hunger Games series, the Combat Knife, Throwing Knife, Poison Knife and Spear.
- One new food from The Hunger Games series, Nightlock Berries.
- One new block from The Hunger Games series, Nightlock Bush.
- Fully functional Tributes, with Customizable Names.
- Fully functional Hunger Games, with integrated LAN support.
- Automatic update detection.

Does The Hunger Games Mod work with Forge/Forge ModLoader?
The Hunger Games Mod is not built to work with Forge, nor tested on Forge. Some versions have been compatible but recent updates to Forge and THGM have seen incompatibility. I won't provide any help for crashes if you use Forge as this is a ModLoader Mod. I have nothing against Forge, but the mod is made for ModLoader and that's what you should run it on.

When will you update to Minecraft {version}?
I'm probably already working on it. Because The Hunger Games Mod is not a conventional mod, the time taken to update is unpredictable. The only guarantee is that The Hunger Games Mod will never update before ModLoader. Once ModLoader is updated, I can start working on The Hunger Games Mod again.

When will you add {feature}?
I only add features when the current version is relatively bug-free and stable. I'll often add features in order of popularity, but if your idea is good I'll be sure to add it sometime! Patience!

The automatic installer didn't work! Help!
I do not develop or maintain the automatic installer, take this issue to Skydaz. You can always manually install the mod, it's not too hard.

The Tributes are so derpy/stupid!
The AI isn't brilliant, I'm aware of that. AI is biggest issue when creating the mod, as I have no experience in the field. I normally tweak the AI every update or so - constantly working to improve it!

The Hunger Games Mod 1

The current versions of The Hunger Games Mod are technically called The Hunger Games Mod 2.
This is because, due to the integrated Server, the entire mod had to be built from the ground-up after Minecraft 1.3.

Due to the masses of complications that came with Minecraft 1.3, this update took a very long time and wasn't nearly half as good as the old version, The Hunger Games Mod 1, also referred to as The Hunger Games Mod 1.2.5.

The damage caused by the 1.3 update has never truly been undone, and many people, including me, feel that the mod is a shadow of its former glory.



Using the old version as a target, development of The Hunger Games Mod 2 steams on.
I'm trying to get the mod back to what it used to be before 1.3, but the added complications of an integrated Server still exist, dragging development speed down.

How to: Customize Names

Since 2.1.0, the ability to customize Tribute names has been a key feature of The Hunger Games Mod. This is a small guide to adding your own.

Once you've played The Hunger Games at least once, go to your '.minecraft' directory.
You should find a file called 'thgm2_nameGroups.txt'. This file is only generated after you have played The Hunger Games at least once.

Open the file using a simple text editor, such as Notepad.
The default file looks like this:

You can add your own groups to this list by following the same syntax.
So, for example, adding a new group called "People" containing alexmack929, tomnut1997 and mattsutton12.

You must include the spacebar indent before names, which isn't shown here due to a Minecraft Forums bug, also remember the colon after group names, this is how the mod determines what is a name and what is a group.

Any lines starting with '#' are ignored, and the file is reformatted every time you play, removing any custom comments and fixing the groups. So you can't leave witty banter using the '#' comments, they're only used for readability.

A new name system is being worked on, which may allow custom skins for characters in the future.

genuis idea after watching the movie me and my friend both wanted a hunger games mod its already good but still if you add more i would love it even more and also is they're npcs yet?

Nope, like I said - lots of improving to be done.

I've got no idea how to do NPC's, the closest I've come to doing that is a AI chatbot, but I'll try.

Currently, to "recreate" ambushes, the Gamemakers will occasionally spawn 1-3 zombies literally right behind you, scared the crap out of me while testing.

Ok, thanks. So glad I have somebody who can do art - just added Nightlock berries and you should see the texture for it, it's just a green netherwart. XD

Haha, thanks. And yeah, I've had to "adapt" it quite a lot to fit into Minecraft.

There's a reason nobody else made a Hunger Games mod and it's probably because it's pretty hard putting it into Minecraft.

Did some digging and seems that this is the only Hunger Games mod on MC Forum so far.

Progress Update:

- Added nightlock, and nightlock bushes.
- Work has begun on Tributes, currently only Katniss appears, and she's pretty zombie-like.
- Gamemakers now create lightning strikes nearby the player, and also lightning storms - no rain, just lots of lightning.
- Still 99% compatiable with everything, editing a total of 0 base classes.

Me and some other guys are actually making a hunger games mod. It will spawn you in a training center and after a 'day' or 2 the Games start. You start on a metal platform, and some tributes run away while other stay and get weapons

Yep, that's a bug in 0.6. It's fixed now, but I think I'll wait until 1.0 to do another release.

Sounds good, my approach is a lot more about the "feel" of it, not the actual storyline though. When will it be done?

I've pretty much got NPC's done, just need to add more. So far I've got.

Katniss
- Attacks animals.
- Fights with a Bow.
- Will flee for a while when hit, then attack.
- Runs from Cato.

Cato
- Attacks wolves.
- Fights with a sword.
- High HP, very strong.
- Will chase Katniss.

Peeta
- Follows Katniss.
- Attacks Cato, allthough if Cato is chasing Katniss Cato won't attack Peeta.

An idea is to use TMI to spawn one in?

Also, in 0.6, the Games themselves aren't much - the items are the best bits.

Well, I voted No.

People like Peeta, Katniss and Rue should not be hostile. They weren't in the books either.
Besides that, it adds something different to the mod. It would be boring if every npc would just attack you.

I'd love to see where this is going, keep up the good work!

Good point, I've decided how I'm going to do it now.

There will be three types of NPC.

Allied
Neutral
Agressive

Rue, Katniss and Peeta will be Neutral.
Most other tributes will be Agressive.

Neutral tributes can be allied by right-clicking them with a mockingjay pin - they won't attack unless provoked.

Agressive tributes will attack you if you come near them, but they won't attack their own "allies". For example, Cato won't attack Clove, but will attack Rue. Thresh won't attack Rue or Katniss, but will attack Peeta, Cato and Clove.

I think first add all the tributes into the Npcs then worry about what they do. Also add the Muttations from the games into the game and remove the other mobs.

Idea, Just like the movie all cpu and the player should be tped to the stands on the count of ten, once its over tnt pressure plates disapear and you can either run or run to the cornacopia.
