I had this problem yesturday, thought I should restart my server, but my internet security all of a sudden wouldnt let me get into the Minecraft.net homepage? I thought I would not be able to play minecraft multiplayer again for a while, but I left my server running over night and the next day, it worked! I do not know if this was what fixed it (leaving the server running over night) or if it was just fixed by Notch, but if you still have this problem, maybe youshould try leaving your server running over night?

I have this problem too whith an Hamachi server I made, I tried to wait a night, as Ribster said, but I still can't connect =S.

PS: Please excuse me if I don't speak english very well, I'm french.

PPS: It's ok, I don't know if I did something, but now he say : Bad login

Hey all,

Found this solution elsewhere and it worked for me. Simply change online mode=true to online mode=false in the server properties file. BEWARE THAT THIS CONNECTION IS NOT SECURE!! This will tell the server not to bother validating any usernames with minecraft.net. This leaves you open to hacking and such (as the server will warn you), but it does work. I would recommend using a white list while you are in offline mode.

Hope this helps some of you out.

I had this problem with logging into my local server, and it turned out the server comp had become misconfigured due to an unrelated issue and wasn't resolving DNS, so while I could connect to it locally it wouldn't accept connections because the MC server couldn't connect to the auth server.

TL;DR - make sure your MC server box can connect to minecraft.net (the auth server in particular).

Hey madmous you said you have a problem with your own minecraft server right?
You can't login to your own minecraft server and it said Failed to verify username rite ???
So maybe if imma rite you are using a cracked minecraft and you cnt login.
you can fix it by going to the notepad in your server folder names server.properties and turn online mode to False.

yep works with offline mode, also got a large error in the console so it's probably just minecraft.net

I went on notepad% windir% \ system32 \ drivers \ etc \ hosts but do not know how there is no 'minecraft.net' or www.minecraft.net 'and now? WHAT do I do?

ye well, i just had the same thing while fixing a terrain glitch, like someone said before, and after reading this topic, i tried to login on a server again and it worked.

I opened Task Manager > Processes and ended everything related to Java, then restarted my server and client. Seems to be working now. Not sure if it is a coincidence, though.

i have a problem with joining a yogscast server when im on the proxy for players from mineshafter.appspot.com it would say "failed to verify username" ive tried setting online mode to fales it wont work i can join my server but not others for some reason please help
