Hello, everyone! I am here to announce my WIP, The Aerven Expansion!
Many of us may remember the days of the Aether Collaboration. It was an alternate dimension meant to be totally opposite of the Nether. But it was unfortunately stopped at Minecraft 1.1. While I am not here to remake the Aether, I am here to bring us an alternate dimension similar, based on the series of books I am writing. While the Aerven will be similar to the Aether in many ways, there will be many differences as well. Note that this mod is meant for Single Player use, but in the future, it will not be. When this occurs, we will no longer support SSP. Unless popular demand demands it, so mote it be, but a lot of the luster will be lost.
Since this mod is officially going to be paired with CrystalCraft, ModLoader, Forge AND ModLoaderMP will be required. Since I know NOTHING about ModLoader/Forge, the leader of the CrystalCraft project (LucasJones) can provide more info than I can.
If you have any specific questions, chances are they are answered in the Spoiler section. If I am ever unclear about anything, you want to comment, post images, etcetera, please comment! If you are being a nuisance, you will get a friendly unfriendly post back for the enjoyment of readers (because it is fun to watch mod owners tell off nuisances). The things I absolutely do not want to hear are:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Hate posts. If so, explain why you hate it, and we will do our best to accomodate you.
- Advertisements. The only time you should reference another mod is if you notice severe uncompatibility with another mod. If I feel it is necessary, I will fix it.
- You are a copycat. I feel that the Aether has been inactive long enough for me to BASE an idea off of it. If this actually does violate any terms or licenses, please let me know. Aside from that,
- Your mod is a bad idea. Thank you for wasting minecraftforum.net's database space. If you don't like it, don't download it.
- I want to help code! I thank you for your enthusiasm. If you are serious about helping me, I will give you other things to do. I can assure you, I am perfectly capable of coding by myself. What I will accept are concept art, signature images, textures, and of course, suggestions.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Though of course, people who say these things PROBABLY don't read anyway, so I will have to make some clever comments.
Now that I have gotten that out of the way, let us begin!
As I am aware, not everyone knows what the Aether was all about. A quick search will bring you up to speed. The Aerven Expansion is geared towards people who are feeling like the Earth can only offer diamonds, there are not enough mobs, fun stuff is left out, and that you and your friends need a new, super cool hangout. Here are some key differences between the Aerven and the Aether:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - No dungeons. The multiple dungeon system of the Aether was a bit soggy, and I feel it distracted players from the real reason to go to the Aether.
- Magic. Here it is. The thing that turns any online game into a pile of fun, I will be introducing magic which can be performed based on craftable and lootable scrolls. Spells will have no durability, it will only be based on the user's Mind Power. See description for more info.
- Many New Creatures. All sorts of mounts, pets, and of course, hostiles. Bosses will be speculated as of yet.
- Toys. People will not be spending their whole lives in the Aerven (But you are more than welcome to!), I will be adding all sorts of fun goodies to do, not just in the Aerven, but on the Earth itself, and even the Nether.
- New PvP features. For those of you willing to shed some blood, the Aerven Expansion will include some new, exciting ways to organize and fight your battles.
- More customization. More slots will be added for all sorts of boosting accessories and the like.
- The best part is here. Fall damage IN THE AERVEN will be reduced by 10 (5 hearts) and you can jump 4 blocks high without accessories.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you sold yet? Ya, this section is vague. Oh well, looks like you will have to read through to Section 8 to learn more.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Section 2: Features
So, we now arrive at the bulk of this guide. The content itself is not a spoiler, but for people who like to be surprised, give this section a miss. So, please read with caution if you do not want the Expansion "Spoiled" for you. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Mobs
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Unicorns allow for faster ground travel. Unfortunately, they do not last very long in the regular Earth, as they will disintegrate into sugar if they touch water or rain. Seeing as it never rains in the Aerven (it's located ON the clouds) they decided to make a habitat out of the Aerven.
- Phoenix allow for flight to be possible. The interesting thing about a phoenix is that they never die. When killed or doused with water, they drop ashes (gunpowder) and a phoenix baby. This baby is a hatchling when born, and must be carried as an item (for it is too weak to even resist your fingers) to the Aerven, where it will grow immediately into a child. After 3 days, it will mature into another adult. The only issue is that the saddle consumes heavy resources for the creation of the fireproof sealant.
- Rodis are full of energy and life. By giving them their favorite food (to be determined) they become totally yours. They will always follow you. Totally immune to almost all damage, they have one weakness. While rodis do have the advantage of shooting fireballs, two mob hits will completely destroy a rodi. And worst off, they can never be healed.
- Cloud Sheep are a renewable source for clouds. These mindless creatures will wander recklessly in a straight direction until it thinks another way is correct. During strokes of amnesia, they will stand completely still. They are so mindless that you can easily shear a cloud sheep with nothing more than piece of flint! Herding these creatures is so easy that even they can do it. When a person is holding a cloud, they will flock towards it to check out their once beautiful coat. Now all these things need is a brain.
- Crystal slimes are a completely passive mob that will drop all sorts of crystal essences, which are used for powerful accessories and spells. Elemental slimes are just like the crystal slimes, but they have an element, resulting in an even greater health bar, but the prized elemental essences can drop from them. They can even drop spells respective to their element. Most even drop power essences or even straight crystals. Seeing these in the Aerven is a great sight. Unlike conventional slimes, their lack of needing to fight resulted in the deprecation of their ability to multiply. What they lack in fighting is totally made up for in their giant health bars. Each crystal slime has 20 hearts of health, two times that of a player! What's more? An elemental slime has the power of 3 players, for a whopping 30 hearts! And they are fast. When running from the player, they are slightly faster than the player's sprint. So think about the environment before pursuing a crystal slime.
- A nimbus is a very angry cloud. A very ticked off cloud indeed. At night, if you disrupt a cloud's sleep by breaking it, you will be met by this sight. It is extremely dangerous to an unprepared player, as it can cause large amounts of knockback, coupled with it's burning effect. Fighting a nimbus would be useless, but they give a nice chunk of power. They can drop raw power crystals, anywhere from 0-2. In addition, nimbi can drop (rare spell names here).
- Even though the forces of Aervina held back the evil spirits, some can still be haunting the world. These mobs are the only hostile mob (at the time of this writing.) Truly I tell you, the only people who would relish from these dark spirits are those who want the evil dark magic. This magic is so dark that it cannot even be crafted by mortal hands. People who wish to remain pure are best destroying these spirits and tossing their magic away.
Blocks
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Marble is the main block you will see. It does not turn into Cobblemarble, so it can be mined infinitely. All ores in the Aerven are based on it; marble with colored flecks in it.
- The main tool and armor ores are Mind, Depria, and Doro. Mind has lower durability (mid 200s) but is the strongest of all. It has an efficiency twice that of gold, and its armor will take away the same amount of damage as diamond, but will heal you regardless constantly. Mind accessories are also used to boost battle power and "Mind Power". More on that in the PVP section. Depria has an average between Mind and Doro. Efficient, yet still durable. Depria accessories are used to evade damage or to increase your speed. Doro tools have huge durability, but fairly moderate efficiency. Doro accessories are used for increasing your defence and your overall endurance.
- Elemental blocks can be mined with Holygold tools to release elemental orbs, the most coveted item in the Aerven. Elemental orbs are used to augment your armor (again, PVP section) and weapons. Also used in creating spells.
- On natural White Clouds,, naturally spawning trees, flowers, and of course, kinoko! (Mushrooms for the non-Japanese) Not too much to say; it's dirt.
- Holygold is a very coveted block. It has super high efficiency, and is the only block capable of extracting elemental orbs from an elemental block.
- Your idea could be here. Comment for a chance to get a bullet point and honorable mention.
PVP
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I understand that some of the content below is not PVP, but it still packs as much excitement as PVP.
- A totally revamped armor screen. Not just all your armor, but new RPG-esque stats. This is the huge selling point to this aspect. PVP is far more balanced with the addition of this new stats system.
- Use elemental orbs to give you a leg up on your competition with temporary boosts to your equipment.
- Instanced dungeons allow for groups to enter a full combat zone. These instances have blocks that cannot be destroyed, so everyone can travel to them to gather rare resources and train.
FAQ: but kinokotaku you said there were no dungeons.
A: I meant a dungeon with the whole song and dance the Aether had, with the key and the stones and the chest and the prizes and the this and the that.
- While in the Aerven, everyone is technically dead, so... upon death, you drop NOTHING. You keep all treasures you own. There is an exception, however. If people are locked in a fight labelled "Hostile", all rules are gone. But if a fight is "Friendly", nothing happens.
- Merely an aesthetic point. Death in Minecraft is just not deathy. From now on, when you are killed, a gravestone will be placed at your spot. More to this death sequence to be added later.
- More combat controls allow for even more heated combat. Among these include shields, more weapons, and even tactics that can turn a tide in combat.
- To further balance PVP, every Spirit Level you gain (from Spirit Experience) you receive Spirit Power. Spirit Power is invested in stats to increase your power on the field. Who will you be? A sharp-eyed archer? A powerful yet furious battle mage? The possibilities are endless as you progress. Certain mega powerful scrolls will even allow you to re-allocate your Spirit Powers. Unlike conventional RPGs, you are not bound to a certain class.
- Of course, more ranged weapons. Cheer now.
- Mind Power is used to perform the special abilities that you will be granted throughout your growth. Okay, that was soggy. Mind Power is used to perform spells, and to power very powerful weapons.
- And seriously, not all of us have giant servers with tons of people on them. You may be screaming at me about why I put these giant features in for people with lots of server space. What I will say is that PVP on its own is great. However, you may feel discouraged from fighting with just a few people. To make this more intense, a duel can have bets placed. You bet with Chals, of course. This currency is obtained from the downfall of any creature in the wilderness. Then, after crafting a certain something, you can purchase non-obtainable weapons to become even more powerful, as well as crazy blocks and other things. This certainly is enough incentive to take advantage of the new PVP and fight the good fight!
- Your idea could be here. Comment for a chance to get a bullet point and honorable mention.
Items ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Crystals are the basis of most Aerven survival. There are two types of crystals, Overworld crystals, and Aerven crystals. Overworld crystals are generated in caves by CrystalCraft, and Aerven crystals are found dropped by mobs in the Aerven. Crystals are so important that without them, the Aerven would have no tools, no utilities, and no armor. For more info on Overworld crystals, see the CrystalCraft thread. Aerven crystals are augmented via an altar, where an essence and a crystal are fused, and create a new, usable crystal.
- Essences come in 9 varieties for the time being, unless some other idea emerges from the shadows. Depria, Mind, and Doro essence are dropped by their respective ore, and are valuable in making tools and accessories without a large pricetag. Elemental essences (Water, Fire, Lightning, Wind, and Light) have a much broader usage spectrum. They are used for creating spells, powerful Elemental Orbs, and even consumption. Power essence is used for creating power crystals for fueling utilities, vital to your endeavors. Power blocks made of essences provide various effects, including luminance, increased healing, and the occasional discharge of a random crystal.
- Utilities are various items simlilar to such things as furnaces, workbenches, and dispensers. The Altar allows for the fusion of a crystal and essence. 1 power crystal will fuel 4 fusions. The Pot uses a power crystal to restore 100 durability to a single tool or armor. An Eerie Tome allows for creation of many spells, some of which are only obtainable through the Eerie Tome. The Tome requires a varying number of power crystals depending on the spell and the Potency of the spell. Finally, the Accelerator (I spelled that wrong, right?) compresses essences together to create different Essence Blocks, merely decoration and storage of many essences. These blocks can be broken by hand to produce the Essences it consists of.
So, overall, my purpose for writing this mod is to allow for more Minecraftians to be joined together. Whether your thing be building, crafting, or exploring, I assure you, I am working hard to cater to you. Of course, I can't put ALL of the features into one little forum thread, so look to the release, not the dream.
Copyright: This work and this mod is property of Kurokawa Konoko. You have no right to copy, modify, distribute, sell, or in anyway take this work or this mod for your own. Minecraft is copyright of Mojang Specifications, and I do not have any claim to it. The Minecraft logo, and the Creeper are all registered trademarks belonging to Mojang. The Aerven, Aervina, and my username also belong to me, Kurokawa Konoko.
Yeah, I know it is a little ambitious, but hey. I have done large programming projects in the past. Nothing is ever hard, it just takes a while. Since I am going to be in America next week, I will have plenty of spare time to work. Just so that no one loses faith, I will release some development packs occasionally. The first will be when I create a basic terrain generator and some way to get there.
As I was writing the features section, I realized the scarcity of mobs. The first 2 people who submit good mob ideas will get a VIP opening, that is, the prerelease download of the mod when it is available. Remember to consider the theme of the mod, and realize what I have already stated. Ideas can be either posted or PMed.
Just some good news to all who care about this post, I officially created the Aerven dimension. Once I replace all the biomes with the Heaven biome, resulting in some generation changes, and I get rid of the Nether portal that keeps spawning, I will release a sneak view, which is open to all.
- I refuse to write a signature, and you cannot make me. No.
I'd like to support this mod, but I feel as soon as the aether updates it'll be blown out of the water. Either way i have a mob idea,
Spirit: Humanoid mob that is passive
One sword swipe and it will evaporate into particles
Is completely white with a robe and blue eyes
If you use a glass bottle on it, you can catch it in the bottle
You can then drink it for full health restore
Or you can combine it with redstone and gunpowder to create 10 spirit bombs which you can throw.
They would deal damage to mobs, but no terrain would be destroyed
As I stated in the intro, if you say you dislike the mod, tell me why. You have no idea of what I am capable of. Anyway, I feel that this mob would severely overpower this. Sorry if that came across as rude or curt, but hey. And I have reasonable proof to say the Aether will not be updated soon. And besides, this serves a much different purpose than the Aether. My goal is not to overtake the Aether, but rather to make a unique mod with a similar concept to an existing mod. So, I appreciate your confidence and full-on support, but this mob would severely overpower this.
Na, I dislike that idea. Sorry for being so picky! :). Evaporate into particles would be a nice challenge, though. The Karma system is odd, in my opinion. I mean, it just does not fulfill me enough. My goal statement is that Minecraft is a game, and anything to make it more fun, not necessarily hard, would be great. Java is almost installed, so I should be getting a new version uploaded soon. But please, just because I spit your ideas once, don't stop trying! My hard part of this mod is done, so I could use some nice challenges.
Oh, bad news. This laptop of mine will not install/run Java. I must wait until I return to upload or even test the new version. Sorry to all, but I have more time to make some more modifications, so the first release will be even further along. Still taking suggestions for mobs, but just to let all know that I need to burn this laptop!
I gave Lucas the responsibility of the GUI for he said that he could do it. I wanted to get Aerven further along in the generation, because once I get all this done, we can release a two pack of Crystal Craft and Aerven. I'm going to try to get myself an image editor so that I can create some of the textures I need to release the first version.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
- I refuse to write a signature, and you cannot make me. No.
Well, it's rather hard to describe what I want to you, so... if you want, I could decribe the marble I want and see how much I want to keep or change it. I was going to use Paint.NET if this typewriter computer can handle it. The marble I want will be mainly a super bright white (FEFEFE, anyone?) with some deeper to medium grays streaking through it with a rounded edge. (maybe 070707.) Mind ore = marble w/ purple flecks. Depria ore = marble w/ deep blue flecks. Doro Ore = marble w/ Deep black flecks (020202?). This kind of comment would be better suited for a PM.
My computer home has CS4 Full, so, I'm good. More development into the new features has been done. I hope to finish this teaser without pictures by the end of this week, when I return home. I will then upload the current version, no matter the cost.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
- I refuse to write a signature, and you cannot make me. No.
Just so that no one thinks I'm dead, I uploaded v. GOS.UMW.ARE of the expansion.
Known Bugs:
- Chunks already generated will stay with that biome. This is a very simple fix.
- Fog is way too thick. This is not a simple fix.
- Still cannot return to Overworld w/o Nether > Overworld transition.
- I know you use a diamond to teleport there. I am working on coding a scroll as we speak.
Things Fixed:
- No more popup portal.
- Heaven biome generates. For now, it just generates with snow on the top, water doesn't freeze, and it never rains. But with the debug menu, you can obviously see the change.
This link also includes the first version, FOR.GET.IT. This version is terrible. It uses the same biomes, and the only thing that works is using the diamond to get to the Aerven. No special biome. I will update the teaser shortly with the download instructions.
The Aerven now has the folder Aerven to go with it, right next to DIM1 and DIM-1
Fog is same as Overworld, just white.
Use a scroll to get there. The recipe will change in the future, but for right now... Configuration:
PPP
PSP Where P = Paper S = Snowball
PPP
Each scroll is worth 8 uses. Once I get textures for clouds and marble, I will release first official release and possibly first SMP release!
Sorry, diamonds don't work anymore.
Never heard of Valhalla. But I assure you, this is based on my series of books, so it will be strikingly different. Is it just the terrain that reminds you of it? Because, the terrain will change. And when the terrain changes, the picture will change. The dirt equivalent will be clouds, stone is marble, etc. The snow is just for v. ALM.OST.THR until I create textures for clouds, marble, and (to be decided). Thanks for your vote!
- Marble is the main block you will see. It does not turn into Cobblemarble, so it can be mined infinitely. All ores in the Aerven are based on it; marble with colored flecks in it.
- The main tool and armor ores are Mind, Depria, and Doro. Mind has lower durability (mid 200s) but is the strongest of all. It has an efficiency twice that of gold, and its armor will take away the same amount of damage as diamond, but will heal you regardless constantly. Mind accessories are also used to boost battle power and "Mind Power". More on that in the PVP section. Depria has an average between Mind and Doro. Efficient, yet still durable. Depria accessories are used to evade damage or to increase your speed. Doro tools have huge durability, but fairly moderate efficiency. Doro accessories are used for increasing your defence and your overall endurance.
- Elemental blocks can be mined with Holygold tools to release elemental orbs, the most coveted item in the Aerven. Elemental orbs are used to augment your armor (again, PVP section) and weapons. Also used in creating spells.
- On natural White Clouds,, naturally spawning trees, flowers, and of course, kinoko! (Mushrooms for the non-Japanese) Not too much to say; it's dirt.
- Holygold is a very coveted block. It has super high efficiency, and is the only block capable of extracting elemental orbs from an elemental block.
PVP
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I understand that some of the content below is not PVP, but it still packs as much excitement as PVP.
- A totally revamped armor screen. Not just all your armor, but new RPG-esque stats. This is the huge selling point to this aspect. PVP is far more balanced with the addition of this new stats system.
- Use elemental orbs to give you a leg up on your competition with temporary boosts to your equipment.
- Instanced dungeons allow for groups to enter a full combat zone. These instances have blocks that cannot be destroyed, so everyone can travel to them to gather rare resources and train.
FAQ: but kinokotaku you said there were no dungeons.
A: I meant a dungeon with the whole song and dance the Aether had, with the key and the stones and the chest and the prizes and the this and the that.
- While in the Aerven, everyone is technically dead, so... upon death, you drop NOTHING. You keep all treasures you own. There is an exception, however. If people are locked in a fight labelled "Hostile", all rules are gone. But if a fight is "Friendly", nothing happens.
- Merely an aesthetic point. Death in Minecraft is just not deathy. From now on, when you are killed, a gravestone will be placed at your spot. More to this death sequence to be added later.
- More combat controls allow for even more heated combat. Among these include shields, more weapons, and even tactics that can turn a tide in combat.
- To further balance PVP, every Spirit Level you gain (from Spirit Experience) you receive Spirit Power. Spirit Power is invested in stats to increase your power on the field. Who will you be? A sharp-eyed archer? A powerful yet furious battle mage? The possibilities are endless as you progress. Certain mega powerful scrolls will even allow you to re-allocate your Spirit Powers. Unlike conventional RPGs, you are not bound to a certain class.
- Of course, more ranged weapons. Cheer now.
- Mind Power is used to perform the special abilities that you will be granted throughout your growth. Okay, that was soggy. Mind Power is used to perform spells, and to power very powerful weapons.
- And seriously, not all of us have giant servers with tons of people on them. You may be screaming at me about why I put these giant features in for people with lots of server space. What I will say is that PVP on its own is great. However, you may feel discouraged from fighting with just a few people. To make this more intense, a duel can have bets placed. You bet with Chals, of course. This currency is obtained from the downfall of any creature in the wilderness. Then, after crafting a certain something, you can purchase non-obtainable weapons to become even more powerful, as well as crazy blocks and other things. This certainly is enough incentive to take advantage of the new PVP and fight the good fight!
Items
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Crystals are the basis of most Aerven survival. There are two types of crystals, Overworld crystals, and Aerven crystals. Overworld crystals are generated in caves by CrystalCraft, and Aerven crystals are found dropped by mobs in the Aerven. Crystals are so important that without them, the Aerven would have no tools, no utilities, and no armor. For more info on Overworld crystals, see the CrystalCraft thread. Aerven crystals are augmented via an altar, where an essence and a crystal are fused, and create a new, usable crystal.
- Essences come in 9 varieties for the time being, unless some other idea emerges from the shadows. Depria, Mind, and Doro essence are dropped by their respective ore, and are valuable in making tools and accessories without a large pricetag. Elemental essences (Water, Fire, Lightning, Wind, and Light) have a much broader usage spectrum. They are used for creating spells, powerful Elemental Orbs, and even consumption. Power essence is used for creating power crystals for fueling utilities, vital to your endeavors. Power blocks made of essences provide various effects, including luminance, increased healing, and the occasional discharge of a random crystal.
- Utilities are various items simlilar to such things as furnaces, workbenches, and dispensers. The Altar allows for the fusion of a crystal and essence. 1 power crystal will fuel 4 fusions. The Pot uses a power crystal to restore 100 durability to a single tool or armor. An Eerie Tome allows for creation of many spells, some of which are only obtainable through the Eerie Tome. The Tome requires a varying number of power crystals depending on the spell and the Potency of the spell. Finally, the Accelerator (I spelled that wrong, right?) compresses essences together to create different Essence Blocks, merely decoration and storage of many essences. These blocks can be broken by hand to produce the Essences it consists of.
So, overall, my purpose for writing this mod is to allow for more Minecraftians to be joined together. Whether your thing be building, crafting, or exploring, I assure you, I am working hard to cater to you. Of course, I can't put ALL of the features into one little forum thread, so look to the release, not the dream.
As I stated in the intro, if you say you dislike the mod, tell me why. You have no idea of what I am capable of. Anyway, I feel that this mob would severely overpower this. Sorry if that came across as rude or curt, but hey. And I have reasonable proof to say the Aether will not be updated soon. And besides, this serves a much different purpose than the Aether. My goal is not to overtake the Aether, but rather to make a unique mod with a similar concept to an existing mod. So, I appreciate your confidence and full-on support, but this mob would severely overpower this.
typewritercomputer can handle it. The marble I want will be mainly a super bright white (FEFEFE, anyone?) with some deeper to medium grays streaking through it with a rounded edge. (maybe 070707.) Mind ore = marble w/ purple flecks. Depria ore = marble w/ deep blue flecks. Doro Ore = marble w/ Deep black flecks (020202?). This kind of comment would be better suited for a PM.- I refuse to write a signature, and you cannot make me. No.
Known Bugs:
- Chunks already generated will stay with that biome. This is a very simple fix.
- Fog is way too thick. This is not a simple fix.
- Still cannot return to Overworld w/o Nether > Overworld transition.
- I know you use a diamond to teleport there. I am working on coding a scroll as we speak.
Things Fixed:
- No more popup portal.
- Heaven biome generates. For now, it just generates with snow on the top, water doesn't freeze, and it never rains. But with the debug menu, you can obviously see the change.
This link also includes the first version, FOR.GET.IT. This version is terrible. It uses the same biomes, and the only thing that works is using the diamond to get to the Aerven. No special biome. I will update the teaser shortly with the download instructions.
The Aerven now has the folder Aerven to go with it, right next to DIM1 and DIM-1
Fog is same as Overworld, just white.
Use a scroll to get there. The recipe will change in the future, but for right now... Configuration:
PPP
PSP Where P = Paper S = Snowball
PPP
Each scroll is worth 8 uses. Once I get textures for clouds and marble, I will release first official release and possibly first SMP release!
Sorry, diamonds don't work anymore.
