I think this is a great idea, splitting up the big servers from the smaller ones, also having separate white list threads.
This will give smaller servers a chance, but also help users find what they are looking for.
Some people like giant filled servers, some don't.
I myself love the idea, it'll give my server a chance to actually get noticed hopefully, and get some players, instead of being empty and bumping the thread doing absoulutely nothing because of the servers who white list on there threads, that is bumping, even though that one mod/admin on the "Must Read" thread says it's not, that's unfair.
So I think this method will be great...
Also @Kainzo, the only reason you disagree is because you're on of the servers getting all of the players.
It's the same for me but, I want this to go through because it will help my server get noticed and other smaller servers, the smaller/new servers have a horrible time getting noticed because of all the white list bumps from the "bigger" servers, which is completely unfair.
If servers want to have white lists they should have to do it on another threads or on their website.

I, much like many others, wish the system would be changed. I know from experience, as I have my own thread in Looking For that is constantly getting pushed back by all the other servers. Normally, if they go back at all, players only look back 1 or 2 pages. Quite often then when I would wake up in the morning, I find my server back on page 6 or further. Now how is this going to help me? I can't spam bump it, otherwise it risks deletion. But there isn't always something important to say. Honestly, I think there needs to be 1 bump allowed every 6 hours without a post on your thread. If this isn't the answer you are looking for though, I am sure there are many other options, some of which have been suggested already by other users.
What I think about this is when you create a thread, you have the following options:
What gamemode do you offer? -Survival, I am traditional
- Creative, I like to see colossal structures come alive
- Both, it's the best of both worlds!
Are you a PvP server? - Yes, every man for himself!
- No, I let my players live in peace.
- Specific Areas, if my players are not in their town, they are fair game.
- Arena, I offer an arena for my players to battle to the death.
Do you allow griefing? - Yes, I like to see your hard work destroyed by fire and TNT. C:<
- No, I want my players to leave others' stuff alone.
- Raids, I allow raids, but not pointless griefing.
Do you have towns/nations? - Yes, my players enjoy living in a community.
- No, each player must live alone and hope for the next day.
Do you have factions or races? Yes, I let players choose their race and form factions.
- No, I prefer to let players remain humans.
How many slots do you have? - 1-25. My server is a small, quiet place for anyone to come have a good time.
25-50. I have a fairly large community, but I don't have much against larger servers.
50-100. My server is developed, and players are online constantly. I actively gain players.
100-250. My server is a giant, it has at least 30 players online constantly, and I gain at least 20 people a day.
250-500. My server is colossal. It has at least 100 players online at any given time.
500+. My server is a raging behemoth. I have at least 250 players online at any time and my server being full is nothing uncommon.
Any plugins you want to highlight? plugins
Then, a player can click on a "Search For" button which lets them view these options:
What gamemode do you want? Survival, Creative, or both
Do you want a PvP server? Yes/No/I want PvP in Specific Areas/I want a PvP Arena
Do want to join a griefing server? Yes/No/I want raids but not all out grieifing
Do want to join a server with towns/nations? Yes, I want to join a town/No, every man for himself!
Do you want to join a server with factions or races? Yes, I want to be a dwarf/No, I want to be one group
How large is the server you want to join in terms of slots? 1-25 slots (starting), 25-50 slots (developing), 50-100 slots (mature), 100-250 slots (large), 250-500 slots (giant), 500+ slots (behemoth)
Any plugins you want to see specifically? plugins
This way, players can search for exactly what they're looking for. The server owner can also modify the thread as they add plugins/expand.
This sounds to be a very, very useful mechanism that could be very beneficial to everyone, allowing potential players (or workers) to customize their search for what they are looking for.
Another suggestion would be to split the Looking For section in half, so that you have players looking for a server to join in one forum and players starting up their own server looking for staff on another.
The only thing I can think of that hasn't been said, and if it has been said I apologize, is that we should have a section for RP servers. This seems to be a growing trend, and I think they deserve their own sub-section.
Much like many others have said, this system should be changed. Over the last few pages, many great ideas have been said, but I don't know what is actually possible. As long as there is some sort of organization or filter, things should be slightly better than what is happening currently (like 10 servers bumping their thread every second )
I agree, except if you do it by number of posts, once the small servers move to the big servers they will get buried again. What you should really do is divide by whitelist or number of people on the server itself at any one time, that way the small servers can wait until they are ready, or can support being in a large server category.
This will give smaller servers a chance, but also help users find what they are looking for.

We're going to think about it and come up with a plan!
