This pack is really amazing, and it looks like it has tons of potential. I have a suggestion though, maybe the diamond ore could have like a glass panel on the box so you could see the diamond inside, I think that would maybe prevent some confusion.

i do appreciate the criticism. i was having huge problems getting the stone to tile properly, because i was quite simply doing it wrong... i was using the make seamless tool because i was a bit rusty at gimp and forgot how to offset the layer. ive figured it out now, and ill definitely consider doing a bit more with stone. and grass too, i dont like the grass that much...

but as for making the stuff look more embedded in the stone, ill work on that. what i was going for was a stone with a horizontal texture so i could make it sort of tendril-y. look at the lapis or, and how its embeded, thats more what i was thinking, but its not quite right.

as for doing some textures for me, no need, id rather do them all myself, but any advice on method is appreciated.

as for the cobble, ive since made it far less yellow, and is just a bit warmer than solid gray. i had f.lux on when i textured that... made it hard to judge the color. but if its the shape, cobble is just rather hard to think of anything for.
Okay, great work!

im not sure that would really fit in well, but i was thinking maybe something like it being cracked, and a piece of the box is missing showing diamonds inside.

armor ideas...

leather: leather vest, aviator hat with goggles... the rest shouldn't be too hard.

iron: was thinking of going for something a bit weird, iron tophat covering the entire head with eye holes. as for the rest, a jointed iron fancy suit.

gold: wayyyy too fancy.

diamond: vaguely skeleton themed.

chainmail: should i even bother?

The only possible technical issue I see with the gold ore is whether wax would survive whatever entombs the gold in solid stone.  The art is superb.

I like where this texture pack appears to be headed concept-wise.  The Lapis ore is definitely unique. :)  I'd love to comment a bit more, but I like seeing how the entire pack meshes before I do, as well as how it applies to already existing structures.

I've passed a link to the thread along to a couple friends who might be interested, and I'll be keeping an eye on this.

thanks, but do feel free to comment on anything at this point. i appreciate any feedback i get, even the kind that points out that i really need to fix things that im already planning to, it inspires me to get off my ass and get that done first XD and sometimes i get inspired by the strangest things. i got the tardis/lapis idea when someone randomly started asking me about how i was going to do wooden doors/hinges.

but... we really do need one more steampunk texture pack. glimmar has a very nice one, as i can see there in your signature, ive used it quite a bit, but...

his steampunk style seems to be mixed a bit with 40s era military type design. not sure why, but a lot of things remind me of old military looking ships in it. ya know, the iron doors, and how various things (like the top of the craftbench for example) look rather like old radar systems... and his mobs are all robots. all good things, but personally, my favorite version of steampunk is the post-apocalyptic type, with zombies and jury rigged things that look like they could fall apart at any minute, but dont. glimmar's is a little clean and neat for my taste, but still one of 3 texture packs i regularly use.

Just stopping by and I had an idea for the chain armor. you could do something like the power armor from fallout. I'm not saying copy it exactly, but something along those lines would look pretty cool! keep up the good work!

nah, not because its a bad idea, its pretty good actually, but because it's already been done by glimmar. (the person who made the only other steampunk pack there is, its pretty good check it out if you've not already)

i shall go check out ornate now though.

i was thinking of making pre-release versions of this texture pack along with a testing map, split up into rooms, provided i can figure out how to export a single player map.

You need shading on the stone around the ore to make it look like the items are embedded in. Right now they just look like stickers slapped onto the stone, no matter how nice the design is! I still think this looks great, well done! :3

Creativity! At long last, I have found you! How have you been hiding this long in the forums?
You impress me!

May I say, I will be following this quite earnestly.

Ideas/Grievances:

Hm. Objects to have burnt. A teddy bear, perhaps? Or just a plank of wood. Teddy bear would be kinda creepy. Maybe. Dunno. Good luck to you!

As for grievances, none, at the moment. The diamond block is just a liiitle bit hard to understand, however. I didn't realize that it was a locked box until you said so Posted Image
Silly me.

[Edit: When compared to the Stone, and Cobble, the dirt and sidegrass are very noisy. I personally prefer smoother packs to packs that provide such a wide color gradient that it hurts my eyes. Which is why I suspect that I would prefer this pack to one such as Glimmar's Steampunk.]

G-G-Good luck, and Godspeed!

indeed you're right. i did use some shadowing below the stone's overlapping parts, but perhaps its not enough... darker? a few highlights to really add depth? ill experiment. but i was thinking of changing the stone later, and since i have saved all my ores as .xcf files, it wont be a problem if i do.

i plan to redo a few of my older textures, id been using the "make seamless" tool in gimp, which is a horrible way to do it (i was looking in the wrong place for the offset tool, re-downloaded gimp, still couldn't find it, couldn't get a plugin to add it, etc. i did eventually end up finding it, so im good with tiling now, it was just a stupid annoying mistake)

so anyway... the make seamless tool i used on grass, sand, and dirt made them all rather... less than perfect. ill be redoing them.

for those few so far actually watching this thread, im sure you are thinking... 13THMURDER, Y U NO MAKE MOAR TEXTURE LATELY!? well... the answer is simple. yesterday i was without a computer... and other than that ive been busy building a texture pack testing map. its a map with a testing facility that has different texture "zones" each one having a theme, and together they cover almost all of the textures.

the zones are:

terrain (natural non-living formations. well... grass too. its alive)

nether (nether stuff, obviously. also obsidian and portals are here)

redstone and objects (right like it says, redstone stuff like wire, levers, buttons... and also other objects like a bed, workbench, furnace, etc.)

garden (all of the plants and fungi)

vehicles (minecarts, track, and a boat)

construction (things you'd want to build a house with. planks, glass, iron bars, mineral blocks...)

mobs (a mob dispenser with which to view the skins)

this helps me keep organized, motivates me to get stuff done (instead of spending a long time deciding which texture to do next) and gives me an oppourtunity to release the pack in sections, so i can have it tested as it progresses and get feedback.

i won't just be posting the map/texture pack preview on this thread, however if you want to be a tester, leave a post here saying so, and ill add you to the list, and whenever i finish a zone's worth of textures, ill send you a link to the preview texture pack, and if ive changed anything, the updated map.

however, if you want to be a tester, you need to be able to give me plenty of specific feedback on what works and what doesnt. so... not just OMG THIS IS AWESOME! or U SUXORZ 13THMURDER! but instead tell me WHY its awesome or why i suxorz... whatever that is. what works, and what doesnt.

so, who's up for it?
