I know there's been some threads on this, but I can't seem to find them so I'm just going to ask here.  What level would best be used as an enchant on a diamond pickaxe to get silk touch?  I have a fortune 3 diamond pickaxe as well but I want to be able to store ores and use them when needed (like how W92Baj does).  So yeah what level is best for silk touch on a diamond pickaxe?

7.6% chance at level 22 on diamond pickaxe saves the most exp
14% chance at level 50 on diamond pickaxe saves the most tools.
So depends on whether you wanna save exp or tools.

I have stacks of diamonds so spending pick axes isn't an issue.  Thing is my exp grinder sucks and it takes forever to get up to 50.

So you'll want to do it at level 22 then takes about 21000 exp less but uses 6more picks on average.

Thanks for your help.  Think I'll try a level 50 one first since it's doubled the chances.  Normally I would always get tempted by the high 40's whilst searching for a 50 and end up taking a 48 or 49.  If I don't get silk touch on level 50 though I'll just try the level 22 since that is easy to get.

Getting to level 50 takes 5 times the exp it takes to get to level 22.

Yeah I know, I'm at 25 right now so it probably would make sense to try the 22, but I want to get to 50 this time.

Fortune 3 pickaxes are common (or I'm just lucky).  Almost every time I do a 46> enchant it's fortune 3.

Lv 35 iron pickaxe. 2nd try.

Of course I did try 3 lv 30 gold pickaxes right before without success.

Guess I'm just unlucky then 16 level 45+ enchants and no fortune 3 although I did end up with 3 silk touch pickaxes...

Speaking of fortune, I did get a fortune 2 gold pickaxe. Sigh... not very useful

That's why I only enchant diamond tools.

I got Silk Touch on a level 12 enchantment. Guess that was pretty lucky.

I haven't really gotten to the level of hardcore enchanting in any world of mine though. Haven't done a single level 50 enchantment so far...

I used iron pickaxes at level 30 and got fortune 1 and fortune 3, and iron is just as valuable as diamond for fortune, given that you dont spend it on iron or redstone. You should give that a try

I like to use fortune to harvest coal and lapis the most since I use a lot of them on my map. Use a lot of the tools durability when mining coal.
Also I never use anything other then diamond tools, iron tools feel to slow for me.
