How can I change the skycolor in a texture pack? I wanted to make custom skies for the different biomes (i.e. dirty sky for swamp biome). I know its possible but I just don't know how :/ Any help is much appreciated.

No, it's not. You need MCpatcher to do that.

You know there's a special section on the MC Patcher thread "Information for Texture Pack Authors" which tells you exactly how to use custom colors / custom animations and everything else?

You can only change the fog and sky color of the nether and the end atm. To do that you insert a new "color.properties" file in your texture pack zip or edit the one already there and add/change these lines:

Quote

fog.nether=330707
fog.end=131318
sky.end=181818

Check out my texture pack !

thank you. however I know it's possible to change the sky of the regular world too, as misa's texture pack does this.

Oh, i didn't know that. I looked into misa's pack and here's what you have to do:
The skycolor is changed similar to how the grasscolor is changed using the biome coloring method. The actual colors are stored in misc/skycolor0.png which is a biome palette image. There's a tutorial on how this works by misa here! You may also want to look at misa's pack and maybe use her image as starting point.

Where can't you find it?
It's not in minecraft.jar because mc patcher uses the default colors. If you want it in your pack you have to create it yourself.

Or copy the skycolor0.png of the misa pack and put it in the same folder in your pack ? (with color change)

Um. So to get the custom sky I need for my planned Angry Red Planet texture pack, I need to:
  • Create a 256x256 texture named skycolor0.png with the gradient of choice
  • Place it in the \misc folder of the texture pack
Which I've done, but the sky still persists in being blue. Is there a step I've missed?

The step you've missed is patching the game with McPatcher.

And this thread has been necroe'd at least twice, in case we haven't all noticed.
