I have a exp farm via a monster spawner trap i made, so i have plenty of exp to enchant my gear. I recently was able to make diamond gear. I keep dieing from lava, so the fire resistance enchant sounds great. But i also liked the the helmet Respiration and Aqua Affinity enchants. As well as the Feather Fall enchant for the boots. So my question is can i enchant just my Chestplate and Leggings with fire resistance and have it be any good when getting hit by lava? Or will i need the boots and helmet enchant also?

Do this:

1. Cover lava
2. Enchant pickaxe
3. Get more diamonds

You can get the water affinity/respiration on a golden helment and just have it in your bag. As far as I understand for the fire protection, it stacks, but I'm not sure.

If you're able to get protection V on all your diamond armor pieces (and there's a pretty good shot at level 50 enchanting) its godmode until it runs out.

I've always found armor enchantments to be somewhat finicky trying to get them to be what you want. I would take the advice of iwishiknew and use gold/iron helmets for respiration/aqua affinity. You don't need to wear them all the time, and they don't take damage from you drowning, so basically you only ever need one of them.

With diamond armor, enchant moderately high and just hope for the best. I wouldn't waste too many diamonds trying to get the exact armor enchantments you want.

You can read that if you want to. It'll give you the best ranges to get the enchantments you are looking for.

Thats not really a problem, i got a mod called unofficial better enchanting that allows me to pick and choose my enchant. Somthing mojang should have done.

On your helmet get protection 4 and any other enchantments you get. On you chest plate i think fire resistance 4 is the way to go. Also get fire resistance 4 on your leg because your chest plate is not enough. And last get protection 4 on your boots and maybe you will get lucky and also get feather falling.

Use enchantment books, that way you can:

(Most of them, anyway.)

Protection4 on all armor, unbreaking3 on all, featherfalling on boots, and aqua affinity and respiration on helmet is the best enchants
(helps if you use an anvil)

Protection is the best all around enchantment, since it offers a degree of protection from explosives and fire, as well as mobs.  Respiration and Aqua Affinity can be combined with Protection.  So can Feather Falling.

Yes a quite old thread.  To all the people saying use the protection enchant, you do realize it was nerfed and doesn't protect nearly as well anymore, versus using the more specific enchantments.  So there is more reason to use the specific enchantments if you want to max out your protection versus a specific damage type.

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
