I have a feeling that Luna is going to lash out at Twilight, after seeing the type of expresions that she made when Celestia  told her not to do something/whatever.  This could ultimately play a key role in a later problem; perhaps Luna becomes envious of Twilight and how powerful she is becoming.  In short, there will be a NightMare moom version 2.  This is just a theory, and I highly doubt that the writers would do this, but it is still something to think about.  If it doesn't become a major problem, it could be just a petty problem in some episode.  If I where the supervisor/director/main writer/ whatever of the show, I would make the show go out with a bang, having a some what mature ending (not as in nsfw mature, and as in serious adult like.  Just another thought.

There are things hinted later in the season for Twilight, so we'll see if that ties into Luna's attitude and/or if the Crystal Empire wheels around.

Frankly, with all the synoposises we've been getting for this season I feel sort of spoiled. We pretty much have a gist on what half this season is going to be.

Though the episodes weren't all "WOW", it was still nice to see our friends out on new adventures. Been a long time, I barely recognized their voices.

Some more loose thoughts and random stuff:
I love how Twi shifted gravity, it made a loose idea I had totally canon! Also Twi levitating herself, weee!

Spike using his fire for "offence". + sweaty hands, lol!

Sombra was a letdown. He could have been a proper villain, but instead they left him outside the entire time, literally. His appearance reminds me a bit of my own bad guy OC, minus the armor. Smoky eyes

Killing the bad guy instead of banishment, w00t!

The whole Crystal Empire being gone for 1000 years raises some questions. I got the feeling that it merely shifted through time somehow, unless crystal ponies have a lifespan lasting more than 1000 years. One of them even said "Have we really been gone a 1000 years" ... "It feels like it was just yesterday". Hmmmmmmm.

Well, it's got he MLP humor and I can't make a judgement about characters yet, but it's good. But everything on the Hub is about as good as this (Excluding Dan Vs. and MLP). MLP stands out in the crowd, and this is part of the crowd. It's still good, but it's about as good as the other Hub shows. There is that
little spark that's missing.

Back to MLP:

I can only hope that some of these slice of life episodes will make up for the mediocre start and horrible ending this season will have.

Thoughts on the premiere:

I really liked it. Not as much as Discord, but it was a fun adventure and I love that they're actually dropping hints about things to come in future episodes. What was that book Luna had at the end?

My only real complaint was Sombra not being a character. They should have either given him more to do, or made him a force of nature. similar to the Windigoes. Other than that, a solid start to what should be a good season.

Now a tiny bit of speculation: Since there were no crystal unicorns or pegasi, Sombra wasn't a Crystal Pony, but he was a powerful unicorn. Ancestor of the Sparkles? Anything to do with Starswirl the Bearded? Just some thoughts.

Well, yay. Finally finished the two episodes.

It's nice to see the mane 6, Princess Celestia, Luna, Shining Armor, and Cadance back, but most of them appeared flat and/or comical, unlike in past episodes. Rarity was being obsessive with the crystals. Fluttershy was just shy. Pinkie Pie, as far as I can tell, was only being random.  Shining Armor and Princess Cadance were kinda just... there. They didn't develop much more personality, show more about themselves, none of that.

Rainbow Dash, Applejack, and Celestia seemed to be their usual selves. And I'm fine with that.

Twilight Sparkle appeared a bit Sue-ish at times. "Lol look at me wit mah gravity spell and learning dark magic and successfully pulling it off on my first try roflmao". Other times I was a tiny bit annoyed about her efficiency. She knows all about levitation and teleportation, why couldn't she just lower herself down the staircase instead of walking/tripping down the entire damn thing. Same goes for climbing the staircase and her knowing that gravity spell. Took her a while to realize that. But those are just minor complaints. She's still mostly the same unicorn that I like.

King Sombra. Worst. Villain. Ever.
He was evil for no reason. He barely talked. He had no background. He was just an evil guy for the sake of being the evil guy.

I enjoyed the introduction of the Crystal Kingdom and the Crystal ponies. More canon content for us to play/mess/speculate with.

Princess Luna was quiet, which was a bit disappointing, but what really interested me was the book she had at the end. What was it for?  Hopefully they'll expand on that; I'd hate for there to be a loose end at the end of this season.

The songs were enjoyable. They didn't feel disconnected from the story, and they didn't overstay their welcome.

My rating for episodes 1 & 2 of Season 3:
6/10
