Hello MCForums!

I've recently watched a EthosLab video, if you know him, his minecraft has always been 100% legit. On his latest video, he can be seen creating the Circle stone bricks which are only available in creative. He seems to be using some kind of redstone device including pistons, water and redstone torches.

He seems to be placing redstone torches on a surface, then a circle stone brick appears, I'm completely stumped, I've look online and on YouTube, but there has been no tutorials or anything.

Have any of you guys seen any tutorials?

That sounds vaguely like the amazing transmute machine. Should be able to locate the thread on it if you search the redstone forums.

This device has been around for a while, and to the best of my knowledge still works.

He is probably using a damage value changer, a device that copies the damage value of flowing water into other blocks through the abuse of bugs no one can really explain. :>

Making the machine is something I can't help you with, but it looks like a stone brick needs to be updated and touch water at the same time.  That machine shouldn't be too hard to replicate.  The question is this: when you mine the new block, will it stay that block or turn into stone bricks?

I'm making some tests with this. He's using a block update Detector for moving stone bricks and allowing the flow of water into a redstone torch. When he places the redstone torch, it makes the water flow and a stone brick block fill the same space as the redstone torch all at the same time. It then generates one of the new blocks. Very interesting...

That is not how it works.

The block will will stay that way when you mine it.

It does _not_ generate the block. What this machine does is copying the damage value from the water onto the block with the redstone torch on it.
Circle Stone Bricks have the same ID as Stone Bricks and are just using a different damage value. Water uses the damage value to determine its "height". Depending on how far you will let the water flow from its source block in a 1 block canal you will be able to control what damage value the block will get.

It is basically this machine:

If someone made that garbage on my server they would be banned and reported to their ISP. That is exploiting software over the network and is illegal.

Oh yeah I just made the one pretty similar to Etho's....
It automatically clears the space for another block, pushes the trasmuted blocks to the side, and  There's water control, to select to which block you want to convert. :D

So, according to your logic, I should report somebody who is simply using a bug while it lasts?
Well then, go report almost half the people who have made rollercoasters before Booster Tracks were invented. Booster carts were a bug.

Are you serious?  No, this isn't illegal.  It's not even against any TOS.  Heck, it barely even counts as an exploit.  I guess if you have a server economy where the rare wools are really valuable, this could be useful?  Of course, breeding dyed sheep already gets you an infinite supply.

On a less ridiculous topic - I actually kind of like the idea of a block you can only obtain by somewhat arcane means.  Not sure if you can mine it either - if you have to push it to the destination, then making a building using these would be a pretty impressive prestige project, like a brick house when clay was really rare.

Seems a lot of people were asking for one so I went ahead and made a tutorial for a similar machine.

It shows how to get the new circle stone block as well. Just use a sticky piston and then a regular piston connected to the redstone circuit to pull the blocks out and make it auto like Ethos'.

You can mine the circle brick block like any other block.

Same with those stone cubes (id 44:6) which aren't even available in creative mode. However, don't use a silk touch pick on those or you would only get 1 slab back instead of 2 (this goes for all types of double slab blocks, by the way).
