For all who may have said notch was greedy in the past, prepare your your foot for oral insertion.
If it was me, I would have kept half of it. That'd do me for the rest of my life under current living conditions. I'd never have to work again, and may even be able to buy some of the things I've been wanting, like a smart phone, a bomb shelter, and a backup generator. lol
This, is what our world is lacking. BIG TIME. Generosity is a very uncommon thing these days, & this will hopefully inspire others to do the same. My hat is off to you sir, as with many other fans I'm sure. You all are not only creating wonderful games, but impacting those around you in an extremely positive way. Not only are you impacting those around you, several charities have been recipients of generous gifts from your team. This should make us all consider something. No matter how broke you currently may be, what your current situation is or what you will be facing in the future, there will ALWAYS be someone out there who has it WAY WORSE than you do. I know it's something thats often hard to remember when you're knee - waist - chin deep in trouble. I try to remind myself of this and other simple truths every day. Like last night, buying a beer at a gas station. Sure, I was paying with coins & this was my last 3 dollars of ''disposable'' income, but when I got my change back (which wasn't but 30some odd cents) I happened to glance to the right where I saw a box, with ''Charity Junction - A childrens' beneficial charity organization'' printed across it with their information & I thought to myself, ''Jim, someone needs thats change a helluva lot more than you need another beer when you get the coin saved up.'' Sure, it was a menial donation of a few coins, & that might be the only donation they receive from those boxes, but you're making the choice to sacrifice something you have, so that someone else can have. It definitely makes you feel reassured that you CAN make a positive change in this ever-darkening, selfish world of instant gratification we live in, whether is change from a small purchase or just giving a portion of your time to help someone who needs it. Just think with me for a few seconds, if we all would just treat others the way we like to be treated, this world would be simply fantastic. When you make that decision to help someone else, others will see that there are still people with a soul left in this world, and it will ignite that spark inside them to do the same. Lets keep the ball rolling friends, it starts with you.
Knew Notch was a good guy. Sure hes had a few mistakes in the past, but he has a kind heart and one of the only game developers that cares more about making people happy other then just making money for himself. Notch, you are the man. You are the man.
I have disagreed with some things with Notch in the past, but this guy now has my utmost respect... kudos to you my man, karma will undoubtedly be very good for you in the future...
Agreed. Notch ain't always one of my favorite people, but this kind of generosity is pretty well unheard of lately.
Hey, humble roots result in humble people. People born into wealth and power don't respect or even fully comprehend it. But someone who started from scratch like Notch understands what it's like to not be super-rich, and isn't easily corrupted by power and wealth. That's why the big companies that started big are usually faceless and sometimes greedy, while smaller indie companies tend to be more down to earth.
I would like to title Notch as the Andrew Carnegie of the year already. But I think it is a bit soon. He should create jobs for millions of people who need them. Like me. Anyways, congratulations on following the Gospel of Wealth.
3 million isn't much when u share it between 25 people !!! , in fact its less then a average wage in AUS
Assuming Notch did not keep any of it whatsoever, which I'm pretty sure he gave it all away, that leaves 24 people to split it between. 25 including Notch. 3,000,000/24 is a pretty good amount of $125,000. So, I'm pretty sure that on top of what they are all paid anyways, that is a great bonus. Also, research I found shows that the average income for an Australian per year is around $70,000. That's just from what I found; I don't know how accurate that really is.
