I doubt the mystery surrounding the desert wells is accidental. Pay attention guys, I sense something big coming. Something that has been kept under wraps on purpose, either to surprise us or because they were not sure whether they wanted to do it yet. I think the adding of this texture is confirmaion that they are moving ahead with this secret project, whatever it is...

As long as they get their foot in the door, unlike red dragons..

I wonder if a new mob will be involved if they add ruins..

The block on the right also could be a dust devil type mob. Sort of like a blaze but in the overworld and only in deserts.

When I saw it I thought it could be like the stone slabs, that have a different texture than the stone block. I'm afraid I didn't get the texture when adding two sandstone slabs together though

It's nice having some non-brick artificial textures added.

If it was in terrain.png, I doubt it somewhat, though you never know.

The heiroglyphs show a creeper, a block, an eye, and a person (steve?) the other block looks more like a 2d cutaway view of a pyramid with an antepyramid burrowed under the ground.
