I always end up quitting the world I am on. I am going to take a much more simple approach, and just build a castle. If you have any ideas on exact blueprints or ideas in general, please tell us. I have a simple idea of what I could do, but I bet people could get much better designs. Oh, and by castle I mean like a towerish place made out of cobblestone and walls. With a courtyard, well preferably.
Make sure you also explain the steps. I don't have that many resources in my world, so it's not like I can build the whole thing in one day... ;)

-Cheers  :D

Just a general square castle with a large wall around it with towers at regular intervals along the wall is always nice.

Go on youtube and check that out.

Is a personal favorite of mine... :]

Srs part now: If you're on a PvP server smaller is better imo, bigger=big fat PILLAGE ME target. (Unless you have a clan to defend it)

I'm talking about singleplayer.

Yeah, in PvP it's best to make special bases. Like underground, remote, you know. Secretive or impossible to get to.

Your entire world is resources. :iapprove:  Are you looking for a simple affair or something quite elaborate?  Here's an interesting looking castle design you might try to replicate in Minecraft:

@Kyl

I actually kind of like it. I might close up the sides or something and fix it up and put a big ol' tower as a main base to the right...thanks for the help with brainstorming.

First, ask yourself the key questions:

How big will it be? Will you be able to handle a big project?
Is it going to be practical or just for looks?
Is it going to be square? Or based on a real castle?

See how it isn't perfectly square, and how I have used different materials to other people.

You're kidding. You linked to your hard drive.

Your hard drive isn't attached to the internet in any way unless it's something like Dropbox. I think you need to take an introduction to computers class.

Maybe instead of insulting him, you could help him.

Come on, be nice. Some people just don't have the computer knowledge - and we all have random *derp* moments sometimes, it might just be a case of that. Either way, you could have cushioned your words a bit. :Lava: Sorry if I came across as condescending, just trying to be helpful. :VV:

@MAzartta - if you want to share your pictures, you'll need to upload them to a picture sharing site like Tinypic or Photobucket. I'm not really that crash hot with that sort of stuff, I tend to avoid going to the effort, so you'll need to ask someone else if you want help linking your photos to this thread. :)

Hmm, you could have like a gate, stone in the form of a gate frame with fences at the top and if you have controller block, a switch to change if it's open or shut, wall could be about 10 blocks high of stone and for the top bit you could have half steps and for every other block 2 half blocks, for the actual castle inside not too sure.

This is my fourth castle, which I built on the "World in the Air" seed.  They get a little bit more elaborate each time, as I expand on things that I liked in the previous design.

Posted Image

For instance, my previous castle didn't have docks or a courtyard in front:

Suggestions:

1.  Do your floor plan on graph paper or Excel before you start building.
2.  Make your floors two layers thick, so you can put down flooring and it won't show through to the room below.
3.  Pick the most scenic spot you can find.  You don't want to look out on blandness.
4.  For your parapets, where you have that notched, toothy thing going on, in the low spots, instead of solid blocks, use stone stairs facing outward.  It will enhance your downward visibility quite a bit.

Well for one, try to search up medieval castle ans tronghold designs. If you find a design you particularly like, try to start off with a basic outline of a base. then work from there. If your model doesn't turn out as you planned it to, try improvising. So say you accidentally added a part that wasn't there, don't get rid of it, try improvising with it. Maybe turn it into a storage room or your own personal room. Just find something you like and build it.  :)

Nice castle dude.  Hope it in single player cuz in multiplayer I have noticed that, at least with me, wooden buildings are torched instead of being mined out in some instances.
