after reading all this it is sad to see so many people afraid of change, bukkit has sustained a great utility for modders and server admins alike.
Things inevitably change, they are making an official API to make modding solid, this will end alot of the "dang it the new updates out, now I have to wait for bukkit/modloader/canary/specific mods or plugins to update boohooo!" and it will guarentee a specific mod or plugin works, no more blackscreens because it will all be under a specific code format, those who say this is the end oh no, no more mods, no more open choices are foolish, they are going to hand you the tools to create your mod/plugin and give you the assurance that it will work without a hitch if you followed the API they have given you.
whats so bad about that? god forbid everything will finally be compatible, take a moment to imagine the new door that has been open, mods you know and love that will work on a server side by side with block protections, more mods that will work in SMP without 85 different modification to your MC.jar.
the possibility to open up minecraft click on your favorite server and play with thier own custom items, texture packs, sounds, and who knows what else.
stop closing your mind, and start opening the door into possibilities!
This will be a huge leap for the bukkit team also this way mojang can give bukkit the prerealeas and then they can make it much faster and less of a wait for the coumnity
the end of greifing? pff. i was once a game hacker (a long time ago. before i started playing minecraft), and if i know ANYTHING about people like that, its that they NEVER give up. there WILL be greifing, you can be sure.
I wonder if this will lead to better SMP ;o (better as in...no more spazzing out mobs, no redstone issues, etc). Bukkit is a big part of SMP after all, so it MIGHT change (thats a big maybe :tongue.gif:)
(it would be nice D:)
Bukkit is too simple, there should be more commands and possibilities that are more easily done. It's not so comfortable as CMP server softwares and that's why i still think that CMP have sometimes better multiplayer than SMP (not so big lags and much more easilly controllable). I was able to host a survival server with sometimes 20 people online with physics on some maps and huge lava survival with many mobs and no lags (running on 1gb RAM, weak single core processor and really shitty router that was unable to run MySQL). Now i have 2gb RAM and i can't even host an internet server for 2 people although i portforwarded. Even over Hamachi... Old good MCLawl!
you're talking about a classic server. their system requirements is so small because :
1. Most of the software written in C++
2. They don't have tons of mobs, animals, wolrd generating, and those kind of stuffs
Anyway back to topic.
I'm glad that bukkit took a huge step forward. Bukkit is amazing, vanilla servers are boring and insecure.
I think people behind Bukkit is totally dedicated and work hards. Every updates, with hundreds of people screaming at them to update the software, that ain't easy.
I don't even care if those don't show up this is all amamamazing news!
Congrats to everyone invloved and may it bring better things for both Bukkit and Minecraft in the future!

Define Cute (choose 1): A) Creepers Aerbunnies C) Herobrine. If you chose A): You appeal to destruction and to stereotypes. If you chose B): You are a perfectly normal person, and enjoy the Aether Mod. If you chose C): Please leave the planet now before you set off a nuclear warhead--no one enjoys mass murders, however nice they might seem to you.
