I built an enchantment room, with bookshelves around it. I can place an item into the table, but no enchantments show up at all in the window.

Is there some bug with enchanting? It seems like a lot of other people can do it just fine.

Well, the item has to be enchantable. Also, there needs to be at least a block of air between a bookshelf and an enchantment table.

Are you trying to enchant a sword, bow or piece of armor?

I'm trying to enchant my sword, yeah, and there is air between the bookshelves and the table.

If its not enchanting at all that does not mean the bookshelves aren't working, it means there is a problem. (bookshelves will just allow you to enchant at higher levels.)

1) Are you trying to enchant to a level higher then you have? (your level is a green bar bwlow health and food).
2) Did you try mining the table and move it?

Also, the bookshelf arrangement should look lie this.

That's exactly what my bookshelves look like. It's not showing up at all, it isn't a level issue. I've tried replacing the table a few times already.

No mods installed, although I did use a high res texture pack for a while, is it possible that would break it seeing as the jar file had to be changed?

You could save the map and install a fresh vanilla-mc...

Weird, def seems like a glitch which i have no idea how to remedy. All i can suggest is trying to craft another table. Or even move out of your vicinity (chunk) and try again.

Are you playing on survival?

Use a pickax to destroy and replace the table. If you've done it already place it in another chunk. The chunk your in may be inactive or broken.

A forced update might fix it. Easier than uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft fresh.

My test world's enchantment table became useless just like that when I had item damage turned off via SPC. If you don't have any mods though, then I don't really know...

Maybe that low glass ceiling you have is causing it.
