I just had a really great idea. What if you could put jack-o-lanterns on your head, thus giving off light? That way it wouldnt add any new items/blocks to the game, just making a wearable, mobile light source. That would be really neat i think, so that way, if you run out of torches, you just wear a jack-o-lantern! Way better than a whole new block with people saying HUURRR WE NEED SOOPER ORE FOR BATTERIES FOR OUR FACTORY FOR OUR HELMETS!!! THAT TOTALLY FITS IN WITH MINECRAFT!!!!11!!one!!1!

Feedback anyone?

Please?

No.

Because than you're head would be on fire.
And that doesn't really fit either.

How does it not fit? It's just like vanilla, with a normal pumpkin, that you put on your head, like pumpkin... The only difference is that it gives off light. And you can step and move all over torches without catching fire. Therefore, your shoddy argument is null.

The fact is, that once a jack o' lantern has a torch in it, the torch cannot be removed. As the torch is most likely stood up inside the pumpkin, than it would need to be removed to make space for the player's head (which is why it works without the torch), and thusly would not cast light. Also Notch has toyed with something like that before, with hand-held light, but it looked too ugly. Case and point, your shoddy counter-argument is null.

P.S. Would you like to were a pumpkin with fire in it in real life? Probably not.

I don't really feel to comfortable with putting a pumpkin on my head in the first place.

I think it would be good as then you wont need to get any coal or go on a mini adventure to find some.

If you can put a pumpkin on your head, and all blocks in minecraft are 3 cubic meters, then there is more than enough room for a torch. It would not look ugly with smooth lighting, i just think notch is a bit too picky. I would look fine.... And with realism, Would you like to jump down a hole 30 feet deep, then eat some porkchops to recover damage? No? Then why are you taking realism into this? You cant put 3.2 million tonnes of gold into your pocket... stop arguing. You will lose.

If that would make you lag, get a potato. It has more ram.

It would actually cause quite a lot of lag, especially with smooth lighting. Also, most people's computers have more RAM than a potato.

This concept's core mechanic (having a light source that you wear/hold) has been suggested before in the form of Miner Helmets and being able to hold Torches in your hand that give off light. However, there appear to be technical limitations/complications that prevent this from being a slam dunk coding wise, I don't understand it myself. However, I am sure that if the pumpkin were to be used for some purpose, it would not to be wearing it on your head whilst lit, it's not that comical and more just odd.

Fortresscraft managed to do it with a miner's helmet so why not?

Besides for realism there isn't much realism in Minecraft in the first place. You carry things based on quantity instead of weight or volume and you have magical red dust for contraptions.

How exactly does wearing a jack o lantern on your head work out? It's got a torch in it, no room for your head and the torch would burn you.

While a mobile light source sounds good, you would still have the vision blocking of a normal pumpkin, which would kind of ruin it for me. <_<

That's true... But then again, the commodore 64 had less ram then a potato XP

1. Blocks in minecraft are not 3 cubic meters, just 1... don't know where you got 3.

2. That isn't entirely true.

The idea just doesn't seem realistic, like you have a torch in the pumpkin, your not going to go put your head in there and be like oh this is nice :) your going to be like oh shit man get this thing off of me. no offence but that's just my oppinion.

I think you would suffocate from all the smoke from the torch, or your hair would light on fire. Either way, its a bad idea.

The only difference is that this is like sticking a torch in your brain

fortresscraft is for XBLA anyways. Most Xbox's have the exact same hardware, only differences being storage space.

Minecraft is for PC, so it's a Lot harder to design for pc when every model (including self built) has different hardware. they can't just design the game for users running win7 ultimate with 12GB of RAM, top of the line video card, and a 6 core processor.

Not to mention the fact that they are coded in different languages and therefore have different lighting engines.
